“The Young and the Restless” (Y&R) spoilers tease that Michael Baldwin’s [Christian LeBlanc] cancer may be returning, setting the stage for him to battle the disease in 2016. It looks like TPTB had heard the fans, and realized they need to give Michael more screen time.
Is it possible they will finally resolve Michael’s dropped cancer storyline by giving him the medical treatment his fans have called for?
The executive producer of “The Young and the Restless,” Jill Farren Phelps in an interview with TV Vine stated, “Sometimes there are misdirection’s, and they need to be dialed back, but you still have to find a way to get out of the story once you have started it, especially when it is a serious disease. You cannot just drop the storyline.”
It is interesting Phelps stated you cannot drop storylines, especially when it centers around a major disease. The writers did, in fact, drop Michael’s cancer storyline and have yet to revisit it. Fans wanted to be able to see him fight the disease and come out victorious.
They wanted to be a PART of his battle with cancer. Most fans feel as if TPTB robbed them of Michael’s shining moment— the fans’ moment.
Head scribe, Chuck Pratt, Jr. stated, “Nothing about this [Michael’s cancer] storyline excites me that much, but, at least, something is happening and there is a conflict within the Baldwin family to embrace. You don’t want people to look back and say, ‘Oh, remember when they tried that story…’ and roll their eyes. If there’s anything that hurts daytime, it’s telling a story and ending it too quickly or ending it dishonestly. And that was happening a lot on this show before my writing team came onboard.”
Chuck Pratt admitted he wasn’t fond of the storyline; however, he agreed it needs an ending. Phelps stated that 2016 would be the year to wrap up storylines that have been lingering without closure.
Jill Farren Phelps implied the Baldwin family will suffer a huge tragedy and will band with each other to overcome it. It seems like the crisis must be that Michael’s cancer comes back, and they have to fight it together.
“The Young and the Restless” fans hope that if they [the writers] decide to end Michael Baldwin’s cancer storyline, they at the very least give the fans the respect to wrap up the story in a fitting way. Michael’s character deserves proper treatment and much more airtime than he’s been getting in the past few months.
