Tonight’s episode of American Gothic kicks off with Gunther and Jake outside, they are setting traps to catch animals. Upstairs, Madeline offers to make Garrett breakfast, he storms out and isn’t hungry. She looks around his room and finds a photo of a girl that he has been staring at for hours.

Brady fills Tess in on the belt. Cam’s wearing the belt in the picture that the Silver Bell Killer used to murder Abe Morales. There’s blood on the belt. Tess insists that it is a misunderstanding and there is no way her brother is capable of that. Brady offers to shut the whole thing down – but he is going to need a DNA sample from Cam to prove his innocence.

Madeline holds a family meeting to go over Mitchell’s will, he left everything to Madeline. Madeline says that if they need anything, to come to her. She announces that she is going to sell the concrete company, Alison is upset, she says that it was her dad’s legacy. Madeline announces there is no argument about it – it’s what Mitchell wanted.

Tess changes the subject, she tells her mom and siblings all about the belt and the photo of Cam wearing it. Alison tells Cam not to give anyone a DNA sample without a warrant. Madeline says that she gave the belt to Gunther to send to Goodwill years ago. Cam thinks that Gunther might be the Silver Bell Killer.

Meanwhile outside Jack is setting the animal trap to try and catch one of Alison’s kids. Everyone rushes outside to stop him, Madeline tells Cam that she wants him in therapy ASAP. Cam and Sophie head to Cam’s old therapist to get Jack an appointment. While they are there, Cam learns that it is standard procedure for the therapist to record all her sessions and she even has Cam’s sessions on tape still. After they leave, Cam freaks out, he tells Sophie that he said some messed up things in therapy, and if the police ever get the tapes they could use them to pin the murder on him. Cam is going to try and destroy his therapist’s tapes.

Brady is not happy when Tess tells him that Cam won’t give a DNA sample. A detective at the office convinces him to steal a sample of Tess’s DNA from the house so that they can see if the blood on the belt belongs to someone that is related to her. Later that night, Brady steals Tess’s hairbrush out of the bathroom.

Alison’s husband Tom is helping her with her campaign, he heads to headquarters with her and butts heads with her campaign manager Naomi. Naomi is determined to get an NFL player named Stephen to endorse her for mayor. Alison and Naomi scheme to throw a charity event to woo Stephen at.

Tess and Madeline are recruited to help set up at the charity event. While they are outside putting together bouquets of flowers, they hear the animal trap go off. Gunther caught a raccoon. They watch with horror as the groundskeeper beats the raccoon over its head with a shovel and kills it.

Garrett heads to a diner, the woman from the photo he was looking at is there getting coffee, her name is Molly. They awkwardly run in to each other, Molly offers her condolences for his father’s death. She says that she has some questions for Garrett, he owes her that.

Later that day, Madeline finds Gunther in the closet looking for a utility cable. Madeline demands to know why he killed the raccoon. Gunther explains that it couldn’t be saved and he wanted to put it out of its misery. Madeline tells Gunther that today will be his last day working for them, and then she stomps off.

At the diner, Molly wants to know why Garrett just vanished on her, without even saying goodbye. Garrett explains that before he left, there were things happening. He didn’t want to be the “Golden Boy” that took over their family business. Molly scoffs that she has waited 14 years and that is the worst excuse she has ever heard. Garrett offers to take her on a date to the Chinese restaurant. Later that night, Cam checks in on Jack to make sure he is sleeping. After his Dad goes to bed, Jack sneaks out of bed and breaks

Later that night, Cam checks in on Jack to make sure he is sleeping. After his Dad goes to bed, Jack sneaks out of bed and breaks in to the neighbor’s house to find her cat Caramel, the one who’s tail he cut off. Meanwhile, Cam sneaks out and heads to the therapists’s office to steal the tapes of his old sessions.
Cam finds some of his old tapes and sits down and watches them on the doctor’s computer. In one tape Cam is shaking, he says that he “wants to talk about the body.”The next day, Sophie and Cam take Jack back to therapy. The next day, Sophie and Cam take Jack back to therapy. The doctor rushes out of the office and tells them that she won’t see Jack anymore. She says that she will email them some lists of therapists that she think will be a better fit for Jack and then rushes off without any explanation. It’s time for the big charity event at the Hawthorne House, Madeline put together a fancy event for Alison. The NFL player arrives and Alison starts schmoozing with him. Meanwhile, Gunther is lurking outside of the window, and he doesn’t seem too thrilled about being firing.

Garrett takes Molly back to his house and they head upstairs to his bedroom. She can’t believe that everything is exactly the same, she finds some old photos of herself and is touched that Garett kept them after all of these years, she leans in and kisses him and they start stripping their clothes off. Things get awkward and Garrett snaps at Molly when she keeps pressing him about why he left. Molly storms out and says she doesn’t know what she was thinking.

There is an unexpected guest at the charity party – Alison’s opponent Mayor Connely. Connelly gives Alison photos of Cam breaking in to the medical building last night, apparently he was having her family followed. He tells Alison to call off the NFL player’s endorsement, or else the photos are going to be in the newspaper in the morning. Alison freaks out, and finds Cam and demands to know what he was doing. Cam begs her not to let Conelly put the photos in the paper, or else he could lose custody of Jack. Alison throws away her endorsement, and she is not happy about it. She corners Cam and says that she is tired of his behavior, he was a mess his whole life, and now Jack is a mess just like him. Cam is upset, he runs off to Sophie’s house to spend the night with her again.

At the police station, Brady is running out of time, the police have tracked the make and model of the belt back to one that Madeline bought years ago. They are closing in on the Hawthornes. Brady runs out of the precinct.

Cam sits down with Jack – he asks him what happened at the therapists office earlier. Jack takes out his cousin’s doll – it appears he did some surgery on it and gave the doll what looks like human teeth.
Detective Cutter shows up at the Hawthorne house and crashes the charity party. She tells Madeline about the belt. Brady runs in with a piece of paper, he tells Cutter that the blood on the belt doesn’t belong to a member of the Hawthorne family, he got the DNA test back. Madeline tells Cutter that she should look in to Gunther. Even though her family’s name is cleared, Tess is furious that Brady betrayed her and got a DNA sample behind her back. She tells him to get out and says that she is staying at her mom’s house. Alison heads home, her husband Tom is waiting for her. He informs her that he bought her family’s concrete business, and he is leaving her, he is tired of being her lackey. Naomi comes over for drinks and to listen to Ali vent, they wind up hooking up on the couch.

Late at night Madeline corners Garrett, she tells him that he “needs to make peace with the past in a way that is not destructive.” Garrett snaps that he doesn’t know if he can, and then he stomps out. Garrett heads to his truck and takes out a pocket knife and cuts his hand open. Then, he heads to a 24/7 clinic late at night, a nurse stitches up his hand. They start chatting, Garrett says he saw her on the news, she is Abe Morales’ daughter – her father was killed by the Silver Bells Killer. It’s not a coincidence that he is there.

Madeline and Tess are home alone. They hear a loud noise and head outside to investigate. They find Gunther hanging from a cord in the green house, it looks like he hung himself and committed suicide.
