Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that some casting shakeups are on the way. We’ll be getting a couple of fresh faces in the coming months. Paige Searcy has already finished taping at DOOL and a recast will likely take her place on screen in early 2017. There’s no official word on the reason for Searcy’s departure, but we’re hearing that it may have been her choice to leave.
However, there’s another Days of Our Lives actress who may have been forced out. Although it hasn’t been confirmed, (CDL has reached out to Days but no word back yet) strong DOOL buzz suggests that Vivian Jovanni has been fired. Since this change appears to have happened recently, it will probably be several months before Jovanni’s last scenes air.
Although some Days viewers were fond of Jovanni’s portrayal, others just weren’t on board. It didn’t help that Jovanni debuted with ridiculously heavy material. Instead of the usual teen angst, Ciara had to deal with Aiden’s (Daniel Cosgrove) doppelganger nearly killing her mother.
As if Hope’s (Kristian Alfonso) trauma wasn’t heavy enough, Ciara also had to cope with Bo’s (Peter Reckell) death. That was a lot for Jovanni to start off with. To make matters worse, Jovanni had to play a rape story a short time later. The blows just kept coming for Ciara, which meant Jovanni had to play very emotional scenes early on.
Jovanni was already at a disadvantage going in. Ciara’s previous portrayer, Lauren Boles, was beloved by many Days of Our Lives fans. It was going to be tough for anyone to fill Boles’ shoes.
Nevertheless, some recasts work better than others. It seems this one didn’t pan out like Days expected. Perhaps Jovanni just couldn’t find her groove. If she’s really gone, who might replace her? We haven’t heard any names tossed around yet, but you can bet that DOOL is being choosy.
Ciara could transfer to another college for a while if they need time to find the perfect fit. On the other hand, they may be working on it right now. Someone new could take over for a seamless transition after the current winter break.
Days of Our Lives has a pretty good track record when it comes to recasts. Billy Flynn was an excellent choice for Chad. Flynn made the role his own and most fans love him. Likewise, many viewers warmed up to Marci Miller’s version of Abigail immediately.
Of course, there are always going to be some missteps. John-Paul Lavoisier’s take on Philip wasn’t a hit at first, but some Days watchers are starting to come around. As luck would have it, Lavoisier is wrapping up his run anyway.
You can probably blame the taping schedule for that. It’s difficult for DOOL to predict the audience’s response months in advance, so sometimes they cut people too soon. As for Ciara, they truly gave Jovanni a shot. It looks like she just wasn’t the best person for the job.
