“General Hospital” (GH) spoilers tease that Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher) is not dead and may have masterminded a faked death to punish Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig). This scheme may also take down Jason Morgan (Billy Miler). But why has Nikolas gone so dark?

For most of Nikolas’ life, he’s been a good guy who made some bad choices sometimes, but he was overall a decent person. Now, he’s not good at all – there seems to be no light left in Nikolas. When and how did this change happen and who is to blame?
Remember, throughout his life, Helena has expressed constant disappointment that Nikolas was not a true Cassadine because he always chose to associate with his common half-brother Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson), mom Laura Spencer (Genie Francis) and other decent people.
When did Nikolas begin to turn dark?
Nikolas may have reached the height of his do-goodery when he was with Emily Quartermaine (Natalia Livingston) and he struggled in the years after her death, having an affair with Liz Webber (Rebecca Herbst) behind Lucky’s back, and other shady actions, but nothing terribly criminal.
But that changed in late 2014/early 2015. Although Nikolas was outraged at Britt Westbourne’s (Kelly Thiebaud) baby stealing scheme and kicked her to the curb, he turned around and stole the Port Charles mayoral election away from Felicia so that Lomax would win.
Is Nikolas a true Cassadine now?
Since then, it’s been a slippery downhill slope into darkness. Nikolas exiled Helena to the family compound in Greece then carried out her plan to steal ELQ, lied about Jake Doe’s true identity, took up with Hayden, and then had her shot.
Despite all these evil antics, in Helena’s video will she made it clear that Nik will still her “biggest disappointment.” How dark has Nikolas gone, though, and what or who is to blame? There’s still that weird portrait Helena left him to be considered.
Can Nikolas get any worse or he is as dark as he can get?
Is Nikolas the man reflected in the teapot? Does that indicate that he killed Helena? Did Nik poison her tea? Killing a family member is definitely a sign that Nikolas has gone “full Cassadine.” But did he also set up his own faked death or is there a chance he’s a victim in the latest incident?
GH spoilers indicate that Nikolas is not dead, just missing – and he may not be missing at all. Nikolas might be right where he wants to be – out of Port Charles and letting his assumed murder be the mechanism that punishes Jason and Hayden. We’ll see.
Why has Nikolas gone dark?
But we have to wonder, why has Nikolas turned so dark? He didn’t handle it very well when he found out Aiden Spencer was Lucky’s child and not his. Then Nikolas took that bullet to the gut over the whole Lulu-Stavros situation. Plus, Nikolas lost both Emily and Courtney, did that break him?
Or is it something more sinister that made Nikolas the schemer we see now? Is Helena to blame for all of this? And if so, is this darker Nikolas an evil twin raised in secret by his evil grandma? Or perhaps Helena used mind control on Nikolas like she did on Jason, Lucky and Luke…
