General Hospital (GH) has lost a few great characters this past year, and obviously some are missed a lot more than others. Who has died this past year that you miss the most? Sabrina Santiago (Teresa Castillo) was a sweet, young woman whose life was taken far too soon.
She had managed to find her way into our hearts as she struggled to escape Carlos Rivera (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) and his family and come back to Port Charles to raise her little boy with a man she truly loved, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell). It was definitely hard to watch as the GH serial killer, Paul Hornsby (Richard Burgi) took her into an empty hospital room and killed her.
General Hospital had its fair share of mobsters through the years, but Carlos Rivera was one of the few who managed to have a lot of people like him. He was misunderstood most of the time, and his love for Sabrina was unwavering. Sabrina clearly had a soft spot for him too because not only did she eventually leave town with him, she covered for him repeatedly with her closest friends.
When Julian Jerome (William DeVry) killed him, there were conflicted feelings between feeling sorry for Carlos and feeling relieved that he couldn’t interfere any longer between Michael and Sabrina.
Nikolas Cassadine (Nick Stabile) had been a long-time character on GH and a lot of fans were invested in his storyline. It was a hard pill to swallow when Nikolas was declared dead twice in a matter of months. Nikolas was a man caught between two rivaling families since her arrived in Port Charles to save his sister, Lulu’s (Emme Rylan) life.
Nikolas had really become his own man, and even though he was in a love-hate marriage with Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig), some fans were enjoying the budding relationship between him and Ava Jerome (Maura West). Too bad it all came to an end when his deranged Uncle Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) shot him and he fell into the darkness below.
The biggest loss for General Hospital might have been the tragic and senseless car bomb that killed Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig). Fans were not sure how learning his son was bipolar would effect Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), but he seemed to be coping with it, so when Ava began to replace Morgan’s bipolar medications with placebos we all knew this wasn’t going to end well.
Morgan began to lose control and self medicate with alcohol, none of which would have happened because he was faithfully taking his medications. Morgan getting drunk at a bar and then stealing a car is all a result of Ava and her sick plan.
Ava simply wanted her daughter Kiki (Hayley Erin) to stay away from him; well she definitely got more than she bargained for. Morgan’s death is going to be felt for a while in Port Charles as well as among fans.
