“General Hospital” (GH) spoilers tease that events unfolding for February sweeps in upcoming new episodes this week and next week will finally force the reveal of a long-suspected secret – that Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin) is not the biological daughter of Ava Jerome (Maura West).
Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) puts Kiki’s life at risk when he decides to single-handedly take on Dixon (Troy Ruptash) the gun dealer. Once Kiki is shot and needs surgery, something medical may crop up that demands either a blood transfusion or other donation that will reveal she and Ava are not related.
So who is Kiki’s mom? The long-standing suspicion is that Nina Clay (Michelle Stafford) is really Kiki’s mom and this makes sense. If you know your GH history, Nina was pregnant when her mom Madeline Reeves (Donna Mills) tried to force a miscarriage.
The drugs Madeline gave Nina put her into a two decade coma and when she woke, Nina was told she had lost the child. But GH fans have long believed that Nina delivered and Madeline gave the baby to Ava to raise.
After all, Madeline herself raised Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) as her own when he was the bio-kid of her sister Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati). So Madeline may think that kind of baby swapping is cool. Plus, consider this, why wouldn’t Ava have told Silas Clay (Michael Easton) she was pregnant?
With Nina in a coma, Silas was free to be with Ava and raise their child together. But Silas didn’t ever know Ava was pregnant – and that’s because she wasn’t. Ava had to hide from Silas since he knew she wasn’t knocked up.
That’s why Ava let Franco (Roger Howarth) believe he was Kiki’s dad and it was only later that Silas was proven to be her father. But Kiki’s maternal paternity was never tested. And another factor in favor of Ava not being Kiki’s mom is that Kiki wasn’t a viable option when Ava needed a stem cell donor.
Kiki wasn’t a match but Avery was. Of course, not every offspring is a donor match for their parent. In fact, siblings are more likely to be bone marrow matches, but since Ava and Julian Jerome (William deVry) are only halfies, they very likely wouldn’t be a good match.
But if Kiki was Ava’s child, Kiki would have a 50/50 shot at being a viable donor for her mother – the same as Avery would have. But Kiki wasn’t a match. Back in the day, Ava could have easily hidden out and pretended to be pregnant if Madeline schemed with Ava to take the baby that Nina was gestating.
Another clue for you fans of General Hospital spoilers is that Ava was reading ‘What to Expect When You are Expecting: A Guide For First Time Mothers’ when she was pregnant with Avery. And why was our sociopath reading this book, because it WAS the first time Ava was expecting!
There are other signs that foreshadow this secret coming out. First, Nina has wound up playing mom to Kiki in that strange family unit the three have formed – Nina, Franco, and Kiki. Second, Nina has been obsessed lately with becoming a mother.
But Franco told her that no one would let them adopt a baby based on their crazy criminal past yet she’s so desperate to have a child. While Kiki is certainly no cuddly newborn, knowing that she was her bio-kid would likely be enough for Nina.
Third, while Ava does have a maternal attachment to Kiki since she raised her, the reveal of her not being Kiki’s bio-mom might soften the blow somewhat of Ava shagging Morgan. While still inappropriate, removing their biological connection makes this slightly less horrifying.
