New General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) will soon be in for a big shock when the paternity test results come back and the child does have a genetic link to him. But could it be that the child is not his daughter, but his sister? Is this a plot to bring back Valentin?
We all know Valentin Cassadine (James Stuart) is coming back because GH inked a deal with the actor and then the plot went off the rails when Nikolas Cassadine portrayer Tyler Christopher was cut from the show. The Nathan-Claudette story could be the way to bring him back to town. Plus, Stuart tweeted recently that he’s coming back!

When Claudette described her ex, it sounded a lot like Valentin. He’s a powerful fixer for people who’s dangerous and she helped him run jobs for money then wanted to get out. Valentin is dangerous and seems to have a small army of goons and some influence.
She said he found out about her daughter Charlotte and threatened her. But what if the reason he’s after her is because he wants the kid and not Claudette? Could Charlotte be Valentin’s kid? A child would be important to Valentin because his family rejected him and he grew up alone.
It seems like Valentin could find another woman to help in his work, so Claudette is very replaceable and he has to know that she’d be too scared of him to tell anyone about his work. But if Charlotte is his child, that would explain why he’s not given up looking for her.
If Claudette hooked up with Valentin not long after she and Nathan split, she could have worked with him, gotten pregnant, then took off to have the child. That would put the child in a close enough age range to pass off as Nathan’s kid. But what about the hair she offered?
Claudette seemed very confident when she handed over a lock of hair to Dr Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) for paternity testing that the test would go her way. Does Claudette know that Nathan is related to Valentin? Does she know Dr O’s secret that Nathan is Valentin’s son?
If Nathan and Valentin are father and son, Claudette might be hoping that the DNA test will be close enough to pass for Nathan’s child rather than Nathan’s sister. There are different types of paternity tests that just show whether two people are related without specifying how.
What’s interesting is that the hair that Claudette offered should NOT work for paternity test at all. Why? It’s a lock of hair she cut from the kid – that’s from the ends of the hair. You have to have the ROOT of the hair to do DNA testing – that’s where the genetic material lives.
The only thing you can test from the ends of hair – where a lock is cut – is maternal DNA. So really, the lock of hair should prove only whether Claudette is the mother – but it can’t prove whether Nathan is the father or not.
Then again, GH writers may be ignoring the science of DNA testing and the whole root issue. We’ll see. This is clearly Claudette running a scheme and it could go one of four possible ways.
#1 Claudette’s child is Nathan’s.
#2 Claudette’s child is Griffin’s.
#3 Claudette’s child is Valentin’s.
#4 Claudette is lying and has no child.
The most intriguing of these is if Claudette’s child is Valentin’s and that’s why the paternity test turns up as a close match for Nathan. It will be interesting to see how much GH writers fiddle with the science since that lock of hair shouldn’t tell Dr Obrecht anything.
Another hint that this might be a plot to bring back Valentin is that Claudette dragged Dr Obrecht into her scheme to try and get her way. Because when Valentin shows up, Dr O should freak out since, by now, most GH fans assume that Nathan and Valentin are father and son.
It would certainly be a messy plot for Valentin to turn back up having fathered a child with Claudette since he just slept with Nina Clay (Michelle Stafford) who is Nathan’s sister, and also with Dr Obrecht (assuming he’s Nathan’s dad). That’s a real family mess cooking there.
