Joey Feek’s best friend, Julie Zamboldi, has put her life on hold. Julie has vowed to be with the country singer until the end of Joey’s battle with cancer. Rory Feek, Joey’s husband and the other half of the duo Joey + Rory, updates his This Life I Live blog whenever the singer/songwriter can. The most recent entry is entitled “St. Jules.”
The entry tells the story of a woman who started the journey with Rory and Joey about eight years ago as a fan. Julie has been there for Joey and Rory through the good times, and now, the bad.
Julie was scheduled to return to her home in Oregon on the evening of Saturday, January 16. As Julie Zamboldi packed her suitcase Joey Feek began to weep. When Rory asked what was wrong, Joey replied, “I don’t think I’ll ever see her again.”
And so, rather than leave Indiana and return home to Oregon that night, Julie stayed. Zamboldi has been through this before – Julie lost two of her best friends to cancer, and Rory revealed, “It hurt [Julie] and scarred her, and somehow our music was part of her healing.”
St. Jules cooks, cleans, and does “any and everything else she can find to do that needs to be done,” Rory shared. And that any and everything includes changing the couple’s almost two-year-old daughter Indiana’s diapers.
Julie Zamboldi has made three trips from Oregon to Indiana since the day Joey and Rory Feek decided to discontinue chemotherapy treatments in October 2015. The stage IV cervical cancer had returned and spread to Joey’s colon. At the time Rory shared that the couple returned home not to die, but to live.
Rory ends the “St. Jules” blog post: “And so at the Indianapolis airport this evening, a plane will take and Saint Jules (as Joey’s daddy calls her) won’t be on it. Instead she will be with her best friend. And as God would have it, the tables have turned and not it’s easy to see…Joey and I are Julie’s biggest fans.”
All the people Rory and Joey Feek love most in the world will continue to provide support and love. Julie Zamboldi is part of that extremely tight knit group. Our thoughts are with Joey, Rory, Indiana, and Julie at this most difficult time.
