MacGyver begins tonight somewhere in the middle of Europe where Jack Dalton (George Eads), Angus “Mac” MacGyver (Lucas Till) and Riley Davis (Tristin Mays) are being buried alive in their vehicle. Dalton tries to explain who Jimmy Hoffa is to Riley, but gives up. Mac tells Dalton and Riley to stop fighting, because if they don’t stop arguing they only have 15 minutes of air left.

Mac takes out an airbag and a gas inflator, he removes the head rest and sets it up to explode the windows, even though they are bulletproof. They all hope in the backseat and Mac causes an explosion that saves all three of them. Dalton says he could kiss Mac and Riley asks if they can just go home already.

They all gather at Mac and Bozer’s (Justin Hires) place, for a Halloween get together, where Dalton admires Bozers work at making prosthetic masks. Bozer says they are all going to a Halloween party, together. In the meantime, Patricia Thornton (Sandrine Holt) is busy field training Riley, giving her tips on how to protect her team and that these reflects need to be a natural instinct. They are interrupted when Thornton gets a call from the FBI regarding Charlie Robinson.

Thornton meets with Dalton and Mac and asks what they know about Charlie Robinson; Mac says he spent some missions with him, even in Kabul disarming IEDs together. He explains that Robinson is one of the best bomb techs he has ever worked with.

Agent Robinson is still working for the FBI, but he has made a special request to see Mac. New York Bomb squad found a bomb inside a parking garage beneath the UN, Robinson had one look at it, and insisted they find Mac. Thornton was told that Mac was the only other pair of eyes he trusts to look at the device. Mac says if he is calling for him, it must be serious. Thornton informs Mac that there are peace talks going on at the UN, and if these talks get interrupted, it could set them back years.

Agent Robinson and Mac suit up and Robinson informs him that they found the bomb on a support beam underneath the UN. Mac asks him why he was called in when it looks like a simple bomb to defuse; Robinson informs him they can’t, it’s created from a heart medication, and Mac admits that not a lot of people could pull that off.

Robinson tells him there is only one person he knows who can do it; and both know he doesn’t operate in the US. Robinson tells Mac to take a look and tell him he is wrong, as Mac opens the device, he realizes there is a bomb within a bomb, and orders the building to be evacuated, but covers the bomb with his bombsuit and runs out the door. He puts it over a manhole cover, places Robinson’s suit on top of it and they bring an empty garbage can over it, as well as a car; they run for cover as it explodes.

Robinson tells Mac the bomb would have killed every agent in the building, and Mac admits that was the idea. They both know for sure who created the bomb now; a man named “Ghost”. As the FBI examines the bomb site, Mac flashes back to Afghanistan five years earlier, where a bomb had killed his commanding officer (CO), recalling a soldier telling him it was the Ghost.

Thornton confronts Mac on his idea that it is the Ghost because he had never operated on US soil before. Mac explains that the peace meeting at the UN means less arms, less jobs. The Ghost builds bombs and sells them to whoever needs him or his services. Thornton tells him they don’t even know what he looks like, Mac responds by telling her they spent a lot of time with his bombs, and became very familiar with his techniques. Dalton tells Mac if he is going to do something stupid, he needs to wait for him, so they could do it together. Agent Robinson interrupts and tells Mac there is something he needs to see.

Robinson informs Mac that one of the pieces of ‘glass’ they found was actually from a camera, and the Ghost was watching, also left at the bomb site was a piece of a SIM card. Mac tells Robinson to give the fragments to Riley and Dalton when they get there; Robinson says it’s impossible and Mac tells him he hasn’t met Riley.

Riley is talking away about how she is going to figure it out, but no one is listening. Dalton comments to Mac, that he hasn’t seen him like this since they started. They talk about the rumors they heard about the Ghost, and Dalton says they make him seem like a monster and Mac says, that’s the one thing all stories got right.

Riley, Dalton and Mac arrive at the suspect’s residence, but before Dalton can break the door down Mac uses chewing gum and the camera on his cellphone to see if the door was rigged. They break in, the man escapes but they learn he has been following Mac the whole time. The laptop is set to blow up, but Riley insists on getting as much data as she can from the hard drive while Dalton complains that he doesn’t want to die in Queens.

They run out of the building with the smoking laptop, giving them a minute before it is going to explode. Dalton stops a garbage truck and Mac uses the gasoline to melt the plastic explosives and he diffuses the bomb, and they go back to the apartment and Riley cracks the computer which has files and videos going back 10 years.

Mac wants to see one of the videos, but insists on watching it alone. Mac flashes back to Kabul and the video is of his CO thanking Mac for covering him for 3 weeks, so he could go home and see his newborn daughter. Mac cries as he sees his CO get blown up, and Dalton comes in to check on him.

Dalton asks who Annabelle is, and Mac explains how his Co was going home to see the birth of his daughter, Annabelle, but at the time Mac didn’t hear anything, and now feels guilty that he never went to see his CO’s wife and daughter. After seeing the video, Mac says this is not going away, he is going to take the Ghost down.

Riley comes in and informs Mac and Dalton that she also found financials for the Ghost. She learns that the same company that pays rent for the apartment also owns a warehouse in Queens. When they arrive on scene, Mac tells Riley to go slow and stay behind him. They take one step and the warehouse explodes. FDNY arrive on scene and they find a body inside. Dalton wants to know why it smells like bleach and Mac explains by using it, it gives more gas than flame.

Agent Robinson calls TATP “the mother of Satan”, and after Mac says this guy doesn’t make mistakes, Dalton wants to know what this stuff is, Mac explains that it is popular among bomb makers because scanners cannot detect it. It is also notoriously risky because even the slightest touch can cause it to erupt. Robinson thinks the case is done, and that the Ghost died by his own bomb. He says the if he is dead, that means the peace talks are safe.

Dalton asks Mac what that look is in his eye. Mac flashes back to when his CO was training him, and for him to look at the big picture. He tells him he is the best he ever had. Mac tells everyone the burned body is not the Ghost, that he would want them to think that so they would end the search, and that the attack on the UN is still going to happen. Dalton backs Mac, while Thornton says it’s over. Dalton and Riley follow him, and when Thornton asks if Mac has always been like that, Agent Robinson says, “a man who trusted his gut, oh yeah!” and follows him.

They are all outside the UN, when he asks Riley to scan the whole area. Mac notices that there is a NYPD mobile headquarters vehicle parked around the corner. Thornton says it’s not unusual, Mac says one, yes, but two? No! Mac, Dalton, Riley and Thorton chase him, but Dalton steps on the floor that clicked.

Mac tells him that if he takes his foot off the plate, he is dead. Mac tells him he cannot move until he knows what is going on, and orders him to not to touch anything. Dalton tells Thornton that he is beginning to freak out a little bit, Riley tries to keep him calm too. Mac says he found the explosives, and there is enough to take out the whole city block. Dalton says then it will be quick and painless, Mac says only if he messes up.

Mac takes his trusty Swiss Army knife and starts to unscrew the plat Dalton is standing on, but stops when he remembers what his CO taught him. He tells them there is never only one bomb, and asks Dalton to unscrew the vent inside the truck without stepping off the plate. In the vent is a camera and a second bomb. Riley says she really hates this guy, Dalton agrees.

Mac explains how they can diffuse this bomb, and Dalton says it’s like the game ‘Operation’. Mac tells him he is too shaky to remove the pin. Dalton tells Riley that if something happens she can have his Shelby Cobra. Mac returns with some tape and a wrench, he wraps it around and then tells Dalton he needs to back up, but promises to be back for him. Dalton tells him that whatever happens, it isn’t his fault; and that it was never his fault. Mac tells him that they got this.

Mac sets up a pulley with a wheel, rope, tape and a wrench and gets the first pin out. Dalton is about to move and Mac screams for him not to move until he cuts the wire. He cuts the wires and Dalton slides out of the truck beside Mac and thanks him. Riley jokes that she doesn’t get his sweet car, Dalton laughs and Riley says, “I guess that’s a no?”

To end the episode, Bozer is measuring Dalton’s face, so he can make prosthetic President’s face, but when he goes to measure Riley’s face she says she will be Morgan Freeman. Dalton protests that he wasn’t a president and she says he was in that movie. He then asks where Mac is, and Dalton said he will be back soon, he needed to take care of something.

Mac goes to visit his CO’s wife and meets his little girl, Annabelle. She gives him her doll whose wings are broken, and he fixes her wings for her. He begins to tell her stories about her father, and that he was the bravest man he ever knew and if she will let him, he would love to tell her all about him.

He admits that the Ghost may have gotten away, but that was for another day. Right now is a time to heal!

THE END!
