The death of Disney star Michael Galeota shocked us all. We have learned that alcohol played a big part in the heartbreaking tragedy. Michael Galeota was just 31 years old when he died on January 11. He had recently checked himself into the hospital after suffering from severe abdominal pain.
The Jersey star checked himself out of the hospital all too soon though, against the doctors orders, in fact. Days later, after nothing but radio silence, his friends went by his apartment in Glendale, CA to check on him and he wouldn’t answer the door. Clearly worried, his friend entered the apartment through a window and discovered Michael Galeota dead on the living room floor.
This leaves us all wishing that he had just stayed in the hospital under the care of the medical staff. At first, the cause of death was being looked at as “natural causes” due to the fact that Galeota has a health history that includes a struggle with hypertension, high cholesterol, and lastly severe inflammation of the digestive tract, also known as, diverticulitis. This made complete sense as to why he went to the hospital with stomach pain that could somehow end up leading to his sudden death.
The cause of death might just be changing now. TMZ has now reported that Michael Galeota was battling the demon of alcoholism for several years leading up to his death. The late actor had been convicted of 3 DUIs, his most recent one being just 4 months ago in September of 2015 (and was not yet a closed case). Galeota was on probation and served jail time for violating it with alcohol related offenses.
There are medical studies relating to alcohol and it’s play in diverticulitis. If Michael Galeota was in fact an alcoholic, then this would make a whole lot of sense. Does this mean that alcohol killed the Disney star? No. Not necessarily. Until the actual autopsy results are revealed, we of course can’t say. But mixing alcohol, especially in excess, with the health conditions Galeota suffered from, along with any meds he was taking for his health needs, could certainly have had very adverse affects, possibly leading to his death.
