‘The Last Ship’ spoilers for Season 3 episode 1 ‘The Scott Effect‘ reveal that the season premiere hits our screens on Sunday, June 12 and it picks up in St Louis where Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) is serving President Michener (Mark Moses) as the head of the entire US Navy, tiny as it is.
The TNT show takes a different approach this season as Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) is helming the USS Nathan James and Hugh Jeter (Charles Parnell), Alisha Granderson (Christina Elmore), Danny Green (Travis Van Winkle) and a handful of others are with him on the ship.
POTUS will send Chandler to investigate claims that President Peng Wu (Fernando Chien) of China is hoarding the virus cure that Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) developed and they Nathan James has been spreading around. Unfortunately, the navy ship is attacked.
The ship is overrun and Slattery is forced to film a message saying that he and five other crew members are now prisoners of war. We see the prisoners being transported, bags over their heads, in a low boat in a swampy tropical looking area.
In addition to action in both China and Vietnam this season, there is talk that a mutated version of the virus is also spreading in Japan. If the virus is spreading again and President Wu is being stingy with the cure, this could be an all-new outbreak as bad as the first.
Looks like Rachel likely did NOT survive the brutal shooting in the Season 2 finale. If the virus has mutated, can someone else step up and continue her work? The Season 3 trailer features an ominous voice-over that says “We’re looking at another pandemic.”
Looks like the Nathan James team faces similar challenges but in new exciting locations and facing new opponents with frightening agendas that may be even more terrifying than the immune faction from Season 2 that tried to destroy American and the sailors of the Nathan James.
Tom will be greeted at a world health summit in Asia as “the man who saved the world.” But can he do it again? Let’s hope!
