‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Ashby Twins At Risk From Cane’s Painkiller Addiction – Accidental Overdose?

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Ashby Twins At Risk From Cane's Painkiller Addiction - Accidental Overdose?

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that the anticipated painkiller storyline won’t go as viewers anticipate. Cane (Daniel Goddard) will begin to rely on prescribed drugs to aid in his recovery from knee surgery. However, his slide toward addiction won’t necessarily be the main push within this arc. Instead, a near-tragic incident will have one of the twins mistake pills for candy.

New head writer Sally Sussman wants to refocus Y&R on topical storytelling. The dangers of drugs being left unsecured in the home will be something that a broad swath of the audience can relate to because it’s believable. Charlie (now played by Brandin Stennis) and Mattie (McKenna Roberts) will move to center stage later in this storyline.

The Ashby twins are quite active, as Lily (Christel Khalil), Cane and all devoted viewers know. They’ve always been and remain likeable kids, but as time has passed a noticeable increase in their physical activity has naturally taken place. So, the setup will involve Cane’s inability to maintain a full focus on the twins due to his use of painkillers.

It’s not that Cane will become a hopeless addict, as that tale has been told in Genoa City and elsewhere within the soapy world many times before. Instead, he’ll simply over-medicate on occasion. That situation will establish an opportunity for one of the twins (or even both) to ingest dropped pills that appear to be candy.

Lily will be working at the Genoa City Athletic Club when this scary incident takes place. Jill (Jess Walton) will be joined by her lovable rogue-spouse and Cane’s father Colin (Tristan Rogers) by the time these scripts are seen on screen. ‘Jilin’ will play a key role in helping to resolve this matter.

As always, Rogers will be warmly welcomed back by the audience. This terrific actor can also be seen on ABC’s ‘General Hospital’ (Robert Scorpio) and on Amazon Prime’s ‘The Bay’ (Commissioner Lex Martin). Rogers’ Y&R character always injects intrigue and comic relief, under lighter circumstances, when he’s roaming about Wisconsin.

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Ashby Twins At Risk From Cane's Painkiller Addiction - Accidental Overdose?

It’s unlikely that Sussman will kill off one, or both of the twins when the climax is reached. The message of this arc will be precaution. It will also be followed by a public service announcement (offered by Goddard) after everything plays out.

This particular storyline must be interesting for Goddard to perform in because of his own serious health incident that happened at work last year. As Y&R fans recall, Goddard accidentally broke his elbow on the set during the filming of a fight scene in the GCAC dinning room. The emergency surgery and recovery time required surely was aided by prescription painkillers. Though the ever-solid actor maintained his medication schedule, so all went well.
