The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that 2017 will bring some twists and turns on the CBS soap. As we prepare for the fun ahead, let’s rewind a bit and remember some fantastic performances from 2016. Here are our picks for best Y&R actor this year.
First, we have to talk about Justin Hartley (Adam). He did some gripping work in Adam’s prison visits. You may have needed your tissue boxes when Nick (Joshua Morrow) stopped by. Hartley’s performance was powerful when Adam urged Nick to take care of Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois).
Chloe’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) visit also brought a fun cat-and-mouse game. Hartley gave us many layers of Adam in that scene. He was also excellent just before Adam was supposedly killed at the cabin. Hartley’s final moments with the show were certainly impressive.

Next, we have Joshua Morrow. After Sage’s (Kelly Sullivan) death, poor Nick really had it rough. Morrow helped us see Nick’s pain throughout his stages of grief. He also brought a lot to the table during the “Sully” reveal scenes. Once Sharon (Sharon Case) divulged the truth, Morrow played Nick’s reaction perfectly.
Although some fans aren’t on board with Nick’s attitude lately, Morrow has tackled his rage like the pro that he is. We can truly feel that anger when Nick is lashing out. Dylan (Steve Burton) also played a key role in the Christian drama. Steve Burton turned in a solid performance as a father grieving for the son he never had.
The Young and the Restless doesn’t normally give Burton much to work with, so this provided a chance to see some range. Burton brought a lot of emotion when he was forced to give “Sully” up. He even packed a punch as Dylan struggled to reconnect with Sharon (Sharon Case).
When Jason Thompson stepped into the role of Billy, Young and the Restless fans had high hopes. After several recasts, we all just wanted to get off the Billy merry-go-round. Luckily, Thompson turned out to be a good fit. He works well with anyone and everyone.
Thompson had a strong debut and the show kept up the momentum with some hot storylines. Of course, the big one this year was the “Philly” affair. Billy fell hard for Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and Thompson really sold it. That was some sizzling chemistry!
Viewers were divided on the whole cheating plot. Some disapproved and others thought it was soapy fun. Regardless of how you feel about the material itself, Thompson did a great job with what he was given. He’s definitely been a nice addition to Y&R.
