The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers detailed past connections between Ian Ward (Ray Wise) and Adam Newman (Justin Hartley). Now, in another revenge plot against Victor (Eric Braeden), Ian’s tentacles stretched from prison to the fated cabin that once stood in the woods.
The former cult leader used the diversion of an explosion to make everyone think Adam Newman is dead, when actually he isn’t. And now, his plot will play out in daytime on Y&R for a possible fall reveal.
Wise became one of Y&R’s greatest villains after debuting on CBS’ steamer in 2014. Written into the backstory of Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) life, Ian’s diabolical manipulation began when she and Paul (Doug Davidson) were linked to ‘The Path’ decades ago. Victor’s resultant hatred for his true love’s assaulter became legendary and set the stage for an initial collaboration with Adam.
The Paragon Project seemed to be Jack’s (Peter Bergman) doing. But, Victor was proved wrong, as Ian and Adam were eventually exposed as having joined vengeful resources to stick it to The Moustache high-tech style. Of course their overly ambitious scheme didn’t work, as Y&R viewers recall.
Victor eventually ended up in Walworth State Prison, where Ward’s character was lying in wait. Fast-forward to the plot point where all computer-related storylines were resolved, Ian shot Victor in the courthouse, kidnapped Nikki and Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and held them in the Abbott cabin.
Yes, Victor came to the rescue and Ian was sent back to the pen. The Moustache earned an early release from his 10-year sentence shortly thereafter and framed Adam for the murder of Constance Bingham (Sally Kellerman), which established the explosion storyline, Adam’s apparent death and Hartley’s planned exit from the show.
Y&R didn’t explain where Ian was specifically taken after he was arrested at the Abbott cabin. Whether he’s in Walworth, or in some other facility, Ian previously demonstrated that he has minions in the outside world and can enter and exit jail as easily as he likes. What better way to get back at the Newman family then by using those human resources to make Victor believe that his favorite son is dead?
Ian Ward felt Adam Newman betrayed him and came to detest Victor Junior as much as Victor Senior. After Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) shot Adam with a dart, Ian’s henchmen removed his limp body and then blew up that remote location.
Adam Newman is currently being held captive for Ian’s future use. Meanwhile, back in Y&R reality, executive producer Mal Young and new head writer Sally Sussman are tasked with deciding how this potential storyline plays out.
