“The Young and The Restless” (Y&R) spoilers tease that the drama backstage may be better than what we see on our TV screens. Daytime Confidential reported a blind item earlier this week that there was a shakeup coming and an Executive Producer of one of the soaps will be fired – could it be Y&R?
Jamey Giddens wrote the DC post – and he usually gets juicy inside scoop from his sources – and added to the blind item that TPTB at the network in question have “been quietly building their case for quite some time.” The post added that it will be positioned that the EP decided to leave, rather than a firing.
With only four soaps on the air, there’s at least a 25% shot that it’s Y&R. But talk is swirling that it is increasingly likely that the scoop is about Jill Farren Phelps at “The Young and The Restless.” And it seems that frustrated Y&R fans are jumping on the bandwagon.
#JFPisFiredParty is trending on Twitter and fans are posting meme pics of dancing, gleeful celebration, and champagne festivities. Some Y&R fans on Twitter have speculated that if JFP is leaving the show, the network will do it on the down-low much as they did the hiring of Chuck Pratt.
But if Jill Farren Phelps is out, who is in? Other speculation is that Mal Young, the British soap guru that was brought in early this year, will replace her. Since he hit the sudser in January, Young has carried the title of “Supervising Producer” but perhaps he’ll get a brand new title soon…
While Y&R is still at the top of the ratings of the four soaps, the show has been on a slow decline over the years. And fan outrage seems to have spiked in the last six months. At the Newman Tower blaze on Halloween, fans were promised two deaths and there were none.
Then there’s the still unresolved matter of Christian’s paternity reveal and the fact that he’s still alive. That’s on top of the abrupt death of Dr A with unsatisfactory end to a convoluted storyline. Plus, the out-of-the-blue killing of Sage Newman (Kelly Sullivan) infuriated viewers.
