Mel B reportedly walked off the set of ‘America’s Got Talent’ after throwing water over Simon Cowell, after Simon made a crude joke about her wedding night. Oh reality television, never change.
The former Spice Girl left behind a shocked – and soaked – Simon Cowell when she ‘stormed’ off the stage following Simon’s joke. As for the actual joke itself? Well, it started when Simon Cowell was critiquing escape artist Demian Aditya’s performance on AGT, and he joked, “I kind of think it will be like Mel B’s wedding night. A lot of anticipation, not much promise.”
Well, it’s become clear that Mel B did not take that well, especially given what she’s still going through with her divorce from her second husband, Stephen Belafonte. For those who haven’t been following Mel B’s divorce drama, she filed for divorce from Stephen Belafonte earlier this year after accusing him of abusing her, forcing her to have threesomes, and getting their nanny pregnant, and was granted a restraining order against him following the divorce filing.
Things are especially heated now that Belafonte is requesting custody rights to Mel B’s daughter with Eddie Murphy, Angel (who is 10 years old), alleging that he played an integral role in raising her and should be entitled to step-visitation rights.
The judge granted Stephen Belafonte the ability to apply for custody rights, stating, “Mr. Belafonte claims it’s in the child’s best interests for him to have contact, frequent and continuing, with the child he says he raised from an infant. The petitioner says it is clearly not in that child’s interest. Those are the assertions.”
With all this drama going on, it’s not difficult to see how Mel B isn’t exactly in a joking mood about her love life, and why she threw water on Simon Cowell and walked off. Immediately after she strode off the stage, ‘America’s Got Talent’ co-host Tyra Banks pitched in with, “Mel B is out. This is live TV, all. Live TV,” and judge Howie Mandel stated, “Something just went wrong.” Way to state the obvious, Howie Mandel.
It appears that despite the public blowup, Mel B did return to the show later on, but seems to have ripped her dress in the process – probably while walking off in a huff. Really, Simon Cowell is known for making jokes in bad taste and for pushing boundaries (he’s technically built his entire career on that persona), but when it comes to hosts of the show, you would think he would be a little more sensitive, no?
