The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that the CBS soap is recasting the role of Adam Newman, according to Jamey Giddens, the ever reliable soap wiz of Daytime Confidential. Of course, that means Y&R will have to craft an elaborate explanation. It always takes a bit of work to clear everything up when a character returns from the dead.
Nevertheless, we’ve been down this road before on The Young and the Restless. They’ll undoubtedly come up with something that makes sense in the soap world. The last time Adam was presumed dead, he was given a plastic surgery to look like Gabriel Bingham. Adam masqueraded as Gabe before the truth eventually came out.
Since The Young and the Restless already took the plastic surgery route, perhaps they’ll go with something a little different this time around. After all, soap fans are perfectly capable of accepting a recast. Just tell us “the role of Adam Newman is now being played by…” and we’re good to go.
However, Y&R will still have to provide the intriguing story of how Adam survived the blast. That’s fairly easy to do. Maybe Adam managed to escape the cabin right as it was exploding. He might’ve been far enough away to avoid death, but close enough to be thrown a great distance.
Adam might’ve hit his head after being propelled into a wooded area. Let’s say a kind stranger found Adam and nursed him back to health. When Adam regained consciousness, he might’ve had amnesia. If Adam doesn’t know who he is, that could be why he hasn’t been in touch with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan).
Then again, perhaps someone nefarious found Adam and has been holding him hostage somewhere. Anyone with a vendetta against Victor (Eric Braeden) or the Newmans would have a motive. Ian (Ray Wise) is an option. He’s been in prison, but he’s proven that he has ways of getting in and out. Plus, a guy like Ian undoubtedly has evil friends. His minions may be doing the dirty work.
Regardless, Adam may be in desperate need of help. This could lead to an epic rescue mission down the road. Nick (Joshua Morrow) could step up to find his brother or Scott (Daniel Hall) could play the hero. Paul (Doug Davidson) might get involved as well. It could be a real team effort.
