The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) might actually seek redemption, rather than top dollar. After initially agreeing to sell her company to Devon (Bryton James) and Neil (Kristoff St. John), she’ll consider changing course, attaining rapprochement with her children and selling to Jabot.

A series of needed flashback scenes reintroduced this controversial character to what likely is a sizable segment of Y&R’s audience that never saw Dina in her 1980’s heyday. While not a previously long-tenured character on the show, she did affect the Abbott family in a dramatic way.

Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Jack (Peter Bergman) have referenced Dina quite often within the last few weeks. Miss Abbott’s feelings have deepened through the years. She still resents her mother for having an affair, which means that she’s not John’s (Jerry Douglas) biological daughter.

Jack has, surprisingly been less harsh. While he isn’t speaking highly of Dina, he did tell his sister that she is still their mother. Jack, Ashley and Traci (Beth Maitland) share a genetic connection through Dina. John was also Jack and Traci’s father.

Dina’s decision to abandon her children three decades ago made John a single father. While he proved to be a rock solid parent, his children (including the girl he adopted, Ashley) have never forgotten what Dina did to all of them.

It was smart of Devon to include Neil in his pursuit of Mergeron Enterprises. While Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) grandson has the money, his adopted dad has the type of deep corporate experience that is needed in this type of high stakes deal. All hasn’t been settled yet. For now a verbal agreement has been reached, contingent upon both sides finalizing all fine points.

Dina told Devon that she’d chosen his offer because of his connection to her childhood friend Katherine. But she also advised him that a hard bargain would ensue. Dina’s followed through on that statement, as the contract Michael (Christian Le Blanc) reviewed had a number of potential deal-breakers in it. That potentially opens a door to Jabot.

Whether Adams remains on the show as a recurring character isn’t yet known. Considering John’s spirit status, it would be nice for the Abbott clan to have its only living parent in town. Possibly John will be written back in again, so he can have one of his talks with Jack, or maybe even Dina. Those scenes would be delightfully compelling.
