The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Dina’s (Marla Adams) health issue, whatever it is, must be dealt with. Jack (Peter Bergman) and Ashley (Eileen Davidson) need to stop slow-walking their suspicions and somehow answer the question that’s been floating in Genoa City’s atmosphere.
The Abbott children mentioned and Traci (Beth Maitland) weren’t familiar with Dina’s current personality when she returned to town. Many painful memories blocked a clean assessment of their mother. But Traci was the first to notice that she was repeating herself and seemed a bit off.
Jack and Ashley were able to grow closer to Dina after Maitland’s recurring character returned to New York. His connection was never as damaged as Ashley’s. So he spent more time with Dina initially.
Ashley was able to work through her understandable hesitations and allowed herself to care about Dina again. After that happened she felt that her mother’s demeanor represented a form of depression that resulted from having released Mergeron Enterprises for cash.
The sale of that conglomerate to Devon (Bryton James) still seems to be a response to Dina’s deterioration, which Graham (Max Shippee) has known about for an indeterminate period of time.
Graham told Dina that he would fix the mistakes she made in the report she submitted to Jack last week. For the moment Jack and Ashley accepted Dina’s next-day admission of her errors and provided correction document, which they believed she had created.
Of course the proximity achieved by having Dina work at Jabot will allow ongoing opportunities for Jack and Ashley to see other missteps. In a projected short time frame these Jabot executives and more importantly, Dina’s children will realize that all is not right.
When that point arrives, no matter what her short-term reaction, Jack and Ashley must stand united, call in Traci if necessary and confront their mother about whatever her condition is. Enabling Dina doesn’t benefit her cause.
Many Y&R viewers have likely faced similar situations with family members and friends, be they of an advanced age or not. As those compassionate fans know, allowing someone to avoid dealing with a serious matter does not translate to that person retaining their dignity, or independence.
Graham’s inheritance may, or may not be tied to his protection of Dina. As all GC observers know, that human will is currently preventing this mystery issue from being properly addressed. But it seems probable that the Abbott children will soon have the information they need to help their mother.
