The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers are pleased to correct a speculative report suggesting that someone might have changed and tampered with Juliet’s (Laur Allen) baby paternity test. Did someone in Genoa City really change the DNA test results and blindside Cane with a paternity swap?
The thing is, based on actual news and real spoilers from The Young and the Restless, a paternity switch-a-roo is not likely. Y&R EP Mal Young said that he wanted to steer clear of who’s your daddy storylines as they are too predictable. He added that moving forward he would not write paternity shake-ups into the storylines.
Even more convincingly, Young said that Juliet’s baby’s paternity was settled and they see no reason to deviate from it. It sounds Mal will continue the storyline that Juliet and Cane Ashby (Daniel Goddard) had a one-night stand and conceived a child together.
In previous years, The Young and the Restless has switched the paternity of nearly every character on the show. The most famous was Summer Newman (Hunter King). Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) switched Summer’s paternity because she felt like she tied Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) to Phyllis Abbott (then Michelle Stafford).
It was something Sharon deeply regretted and tried to make right, but the damage had already been done. Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) spent over a year believing Summer was his daughter and Nick lost a year with his daughter. In the end, Sharon and Nick broke up and shattered their daughter, Faith Newman’s (Alyvia Alyn Lind) dream of them being a family again.
The aftermath was great and Young doesn’t want every child born on Y&R to have a paternity issue of some kind. It seems much more likely that they are going somewhere else with the storyline. Perhaps, they want to pair Juliet with Cane and end Lane all together?
The spoilers for the Week of September 18 state that Cane will fight for his marriage, but Juliet pulls him closer to her. While Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) doesn’t blame Cane for their marriage being in trouble, she can’t deny that he made a series of wrong decisions that led them to this impasse in their relationship.
Based on The Young and the Restless spoilers, a paternity mix-up is not likely.
