The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that viewers will soon see the final scenes Greg Rikaart (Kevin) and Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe) will appear in on Y&R. Savvy CDL readers know that both actor’s departures were previously announced. Now, the final Khloe write-out has begun to play out.
Rikaart joined the cast in 2003. His character was created to broaden Michael’s (Christian LeBlanc) backstory. Kevin was introduced as a deeply troubled young man who was tortured by his father when he was a child. Mr. Fisher initially committed various crimes in Genoa City that involved Lily (Christel Khalil) and others.
Kevin’s star-crossed connection with Hendrickson’s character developed awhile after Chloe was written into the show (2008). Chloe was the SORAS’d version of Esther’s (Kate Linder) daughter Katie, who was named in honor of Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). The self-created name change provided early evidence of her kookiness.
The pairing of Kevin and Chloe (Khloe) proved to rank among Y&R’s most effective decisions. Years of intertwined storylines, on- and off-again romances and eventually, the creation of their own child (Bella, Gia Poeme) resulted.
The evolution of Rikaart’s character paralleled Rikaart’s growth as an actor. He was solid from the jump, but evidenced a broadening array of emotions as the years passed that brought most (if not all) tenured fans to Kevin’s side. Considering Mr. Fisher’s many past acts, Rikaart’s work appears to have deserved more than the one Daytime Emmy Award he’s won to-date (2005, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series).
It can be argued that Hendrickson’s efforts were often the best among all her cast mates. Her frenetic, scene-stealing presence created countless must-watch moments. While Hendrickson has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award various times, she’s never won. Hopefully that issue will be resolved next spring 2018.
Chloe was and remains a force of nature. Consider her initial stalking of Billy (then played by Billy Miller), the early edgy adventures with Kevin, all the epic battles with Adam (Michael Muhney and Justin Hartley), as three arc instances where Hendrickson was outstanding.
Many would likely also say that Hendrickson’s work throughout the ‘Delia (Sophie Pollono) Dies’ storyline was beautifully brilliant. Bookend that grace with Chloe’s recent manipulations of Victor (Eric Braeden). Yes, Victor Newman! Who in Genoa City has ever pulled one over on The Moustache as many times as Chloe has?
Inherent in this classic genre is its grueling, year-round work schedule. Cast changes are also part of the rub. So, Rikaart and Hendrickson are being written out together. Seasoned Y&R fans surely wish both the best and hope that an eventual Khloe reunion will take place in the not-too-distant future.
