The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Mariah's Confusion Over Tessa Challenges Y&R Audience – All Sides Should Soul Search

The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) internal dilemma will do more than challenge Tessa (Cait Fairbanks). This explosive storyline will challenge longtime Y&R viewer’s perceptions of themselves.

Escapist entertainment is pursued for various reasons. Decades ago the soaps offered traditional, family-centered fare that generally allowed people to see similar versions of themselves through the screen. By the 1960’s, topicality and political statements were being made, along with otherworldly views.

In recent weeks Y&R has hinted at Mariah either being homosexual, or bisexual. At this point viewers don’t have enough information to know which identity she is. That’s because Mariah doesn’t know herself.

Great soap, not just okay, or good soap pushes boundaries. That’s what Y&R is attempting to do here, which is, of course a speculative opinion, as was the first sentence in this short paragraph.

This type of personal exploration is one that bothers a certain segment of Y&R’s audience. For them sexual matters are private. Those who consider themselves to be open-minded, or label themselves as progressive feel that sexual issues are fine to discuss in the public arena.

Some (or more than that amount) so-called open-minded soap fans also believe that those who disagree with them should be called names, intimidated into conformity, or marginalized. That doesn’t represent the tolerance they preach, but the opposite.

Both personality types referenced above can learn from each other. And yes, it is personality types that are actually being addressed in this particular feature. Not whatever Mariah decides that she is.

This scribe believes that all people deserve respect. Traditional individuals are not neanderthals. They live by an ideology that is accepted by billions.

Now, here’s something that the other group will likely reject. Those who feel they are enlightened, and therefore feel obligated to speak out against traditionalists are actually no different than that part of humanity they think is beneath them intellectually.

Seeing Mariah explore this issue won’t be easy for some. Others will cheer her on because they believe it advances a cause. But this scribe is okay if someone holds traditional beliefs, or if someone believes in non-traditional beliefs.

All lives in Genoa City aren’t the same. There are different characters, with each person being complex in her, or his own way. That’s what being a human being means, even on daytime television. The writer of this feature is heterosexual. But he feels that homosexuals, bisexuals and all others are his brothers and sisters. Yes, each and every person.

Those viewers who feel that they are more evolved than traditionalists are wrong. They, like you, simply have lived their life according to their individual experience, which isn’t yours. And that’s what Mariah’s story is about to reveal to all.

No, another person’s beliefs aren’t out of date. Reality, as appears to be teased by this very intriguing storyline is what everyone makes it. Not just what progressives, or just traditionalists think. Everyone matters, as we are all the same. CDL is a leading source for everything linked to The Young and the Restless.
