The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) night with Ben (Ben Hermes) could result in an unexpected pregnancy. This time Billy (Jason Thompson) won’t be the father, which will open an entirely new storyline for one of Y&R’s legacy characters.
All anticipated rants about the impossibility of knowing whether Vickie actually conceived miss the point of this feature. Speculation is the bulwark soaps. Solid verbal conjecture that fuels ongoing interest and is intentionally elicited by all daytime drama shows.
Viewer and reader responses to the back and forth between Villy and Philly have revealed a somewhat polarized audience. There subjectively appears to be more fans of Vickie being with Billy than of Billy being with Phyllis (Gina Tognoni). However, even within those factions legitimate complaints about repetitive couple tales are often seen.
Taking an alternative tack, Y&R could (Yes, this is theoretical. Thus the question mark in the headline.) link Vickie to a seeming side character. That’s where Hermes’ occasional persona would be pushed into this play.
There’s plenty of room for growth where Mr. Hochman is concerned. Ben was initially offered as a one-dimensional character. Purely an obnoxious business connection of Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson). Dead skin that she sloughed off. But Y&R has since extended Ben’s reach into a more personal realm.
Ben has been positioned with various players in recent months, as Gloria (Judith Chapman), Hilary (Mishael Morgan) and Phyllis all interacted with this tall fellow. He’s a throwback to the Mad Men era for sure. The implication is that female viewers find him attractive, including those who consider themselves to be enlightened and supposedly open to brainy, instead of brawny types. Yes, that would describe you Vickie.
Imagine the scenario where a woman who’s currently mothering three children then becomes pregnant. Oh, this isn’t just some random lady, or working woman. No, it’s Princess Victoria.
The wife and ex-wife who so often chided Billy for his reckless ways. The Brash and Sassy boss who lambasted and then fired Cane (Daniel Goddard) for his link to Juliet (Laur Allen), now pregnant herself. Wow!
It’s good that Vickie hasn’t fully alienated herself from Victor (Eric Braeden), as both Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) have done. Though Victor’s detractors would fiercely claim that Nikki and Nick are totally innocent in each regard.
The Moustache point was made because this type of storyline would seem to spark a reunion between father and first-born daughter. Vickie would be in need and her dad would be there to help. Sorry Ben, that means you would become Victor’s target as well. Considering the Billy-boy moniker Victor so often applies, one wonders what Ben would be called?
