General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that more medical-related drama’s ahead in Port Charles. It’s important to keep the show focused on hospital happenings. Perhaps the return of a familiar doctor could help with that. If he’s tied to a favorite nurse on canvas, that’s even better!
GH fans know that Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) is eager to meet the rest of Elizabeth Webber’s (Rebecca Herbst) family. She tried to dismiss the idea, but Franco seems determined to look into it. He did an Internet search for Dr. Jeff Webber (last portrayed by Richard Dean Anderson), so that could be a hint about what’s to come. Could Jeff be returning to General Hospital?
For the benefit of newer GH viewers, we’ll fill you in on the Webber family tree. Let’s start with Jeff and his siblings. He had a brother named Rick (Chris Robinson) along with a sister named Terri (Bobbi Jordan). Rick and Terri’s parents were Dr. Lars and Helene Webber (mentioned characters, never cast). As for Jeff, he was the son of the late Helene Webber and Dr. Steve Hardy (John Beradino). Steve’s widow was Audrey (Rachel Ames), Liz’s grandmother.
Long-time GH fans will remember Jeff as Dr. Monica Quartermaine’s (Leslie Charleson) first husband. She kept fooling around with Rick, so Jeff eventually wound up with Heather Grant (Robin Mattson) aka Heather Webber. Rick later found love with Dr. Lesley Williams (Denise Alexander), mother of Laura Webber Spencer Collins (Genie Francis). That paved the way for Monica to be with Dr. Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon).
Jeff and Heather had one child together, Steven Lars Webber, who grew up to be Dr. Steve Webber (Scott Reeves). Unfortunately, Jeff moved to Nevada thanks to his portrayer’s departure. Richard Dean Anderson moved to primetime on ABC and became the original McGyver in 1981. The character has never been recast.
In 1997, Jeff’s two daughters came to Port Charles. Sarah (Jennifer Sky, Sarah Laine) left in 2002, but Lizzie (Rebecca Herbst) remained. Of course, she ultimately started going by Elizabeth – or Liz to those who know her best.
More recently, Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig), was revealed to be a half-sister to Liz and Sarah. She was the product of an affair between Jeff and Naomi Dreyfus (Robin Riker). It’s clear that this family tree has many complicated branches, so that may be part of why Liz wants to leave it in the past. After all, her old family members would’ve reached out by now if they cared enough to.
However, there could also be some soapy secrets left to uncover. Liz isn’t keen on hiding things from Franco, but maybe there are some old wounds she hasn’t thought about in years. Franco’s mission to track down Jeff and any other Webbers could spell trouble. General Hospital spoilers say this storyline will bring some surprising consequences, so let’s hope Franco can regain control in the end!
