On tonight’s American Idol season 17 episode 19 as per the ABC synopsis, “In the Season 2 finale, America’s coast-to-coast vote determines the winner, with all voting taking place during the show. The crowning moment will be preceded by special performances from music legends among other surprises.”

Lionel Richie opened the show with his hit song, “Oh What A Feeling.” Tonight we crown our winner out of Madison, Alejandro or Laine.
The top three will both sing twice. The person in third place will be eliminated. Then America will continue voting for their American Idol.
Laine is singing, “Home,” by Marc Broussard.
Judges Comments: Katy: “Every week your hair gets higher and higher. You are taking some pop star vitamins. If you apply yourself for the next five years you are going to be one of the biggest stars on the planet.” Luke: “What I am proud of you is those shoes you have on. Great job, so honored and proud to see you here man, you have earned it.” Lionel: “I can’t believe I was there saying, “come on Laine join the competition,” but you stole my style. That was a nasty song, you are on your man, on your way.”
Madison is singing, “Shallow,” from a Star is Born; Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
Judges Comments: Luke: “I don’t know what to say. It is so exciting to see your growth. You show the world what kind of next level voice you have, you have the twinkle in your eyes.” Lionel: “You are an amazing light. You are 17 years old, you have to know what a gift you are and we are so proud to be a part of this, you are on your way.” Katy: “Honey, you are shaking because the greatness is coming out of you. The reason we push is that we know you have greatness in you. You are here in the top three if that doesn’t tell you that this thing works.”
Alejandro is singing his original song, “Millennial Love.”
Judges Comments: Lionel: “It was love at first sound for you. Very few times when someone comes around that captivates your imagination and you know you are looking at something amazing. From one songwriter to another, we are so proud to have you join the ranks.” Katy: “Homie, while I was listening to that song, I was truly listening, there were so much reverence and respect for the gift you have been given.” Luke: “I think in life you have these moments when you remember when you met somebody and I will always remember when I met you last October. We have been spoiled by you week after week. Great job man.”
That rounds up Round 1. Luke says Madison took that round. Lionel says that he is a sucker for a songwriter, he chooses Alejandro for this round. Katy agrees with Lionel.
Laine is singing, “Jambalaya (On The Bayou),” by Hank Williams.
Judges Comments: Katy: “This whole time I wanted Luke to take me fishing, but now I want you to take me.” Luke: “We need to get Luke a trademark lawyer. Great song choice, you stuck to your roots, great job.” Lionel: “Let me tell you what is a big deal, when the governor of your state says, “party with Hardy,”.
Madison is singing, “Breakaway,” by Kelly Clarkson.
Judges Comments: Luke: “You finally tackled Kelly Clarkson, great job.” Lionel: “Congratulations, you are on your way.” Katy: “You have come so far, you have to continue to nurture this gift that you have been given. You are about to spread your wings, but keep your work ethic.”
Alejandro is singing a song that he wrote, “Tonight.”
Judges Comments: Lionel: “Throughout this entire process I have watched you try to identify to the place called home. Welcome home to the business, welcome home to your heart.” Katy: “It has been such a pleasure to live in the same lifetime as you. I love being on American Idol, this is no longer a karaoke show, you bring original music and you put the stakes even higher.” Luke: “What a beautiful moment watching you sing your own music, your way. When you are on the cover of Rolling Stones, I will buy it.”
Carrie Underwood performs, “Southwood.”
Time for the three hopefuls to come on stage and find out who is in third place. Here we go, based on the live nationwide vote, the person in third place who will not be continuing in the competition tonight, is Madison.
Laine and Alejandro are in the top 2.
Montell Jordan sings, “This Is How We Do It” with Margie Mays.
Daddy Yankee + Katy Perry feat. Snow singing, “Con Calma (Remix).”
Alejandro is singing his original song, “10 Years.”
Adam Lambert is singing, “New Eyes.”
Dimitrius Graham joins Adam Lambert singing, “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
Dan & Shay singing, “All To Myself,” and “Speechless,” with Madison.
Luke Bryan sings, “Knockin Boots,” then Lacy Kaye Booth joins Luke on stage and sing, “Every Breath You Take,” by the Police.
Pardi and Laine Hardy sing, “Dirt On My Boots,” and “Nightshift.”
Katy Perry sings, “Unconditionally.”
Weezer (Toto) (Tears for Fears) (A-Ha) joins some of the ton ten finalists singing, “Africa,” and “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” “Take On Me.”
Kane Brown sings, “Good As You,” and “Lost In The Middle Of Nowhere,” with Alyssa.
Ryan surprises Alejandro and Laine with a Disney cruise for two, each to the Bahamas.
Shay singing, “Rise Up,” with Andra Day.
Uche joins Kool & The Gang singing, “Hollywood Swinging”, and some of our other top ten singing “Ladies Night,” and “Celebration.”
Laine sings “Bring It On Home To Me,” by Sam Cooke.
Judges Comments: Luke: “I jumped up and I got the spirit, the whole spirit. Congrats. When I heard you last year, you got that tone in your voice, congratulations, I love you.” Lionel: “All I want is for you to remember that when I come to the stage door, you let me in with my party. You have the best attitude I have ever seen. Congratulations.” Katy: “You are authentic. You were not ready last time. You are ready this time.”
Alejandro is singing an original song, “Out Loud.”
Judges Comments: Luke: “Thank you for the experience. One day send me a postcard from the planet that you come from. We love you.” Lionel: “When you walk out on stage, there is something in four or five notes, you are instant identity. God bless you.” Katy: “It is just such an incredible honor to be given this opportunity to give you a little boost, you shine.”
For months they have poured their hearts out on the Idol stage and it all comes down to this, the voting has officially closed.
