Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that Caroline Brady’s (Peggy McCay) memorial service is coming up later this week. Several familiar faces will be there including Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney), Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) and Carrie Brady (Christie Clark). It’s sure to be a heartfelt gathering and a fitting tribute.
Unfortunately, a few former Days stars couldn’t make it back for this sweet sendoff. One of those stars was Jen Lilley (Theresa Donovan), so she felt the need to explain on Twitter. It broke Lilley’s heart to not reprise her role for this special occasion. Lilley really wanted to return and honor Caroline as well as McCay, but it just didn’t work out.
When a DOOL fan asked if Lilley was busy filming a movie, Lilley confirmed that was the case. “Correct,” Lilley said. “I was already under another contract filming in Canada and was truly devastated to miss coming back for this episode. Peggy was like a real grandma to me and a mentor on set. #Days #RIPPeggyMcCay”
Many Days of Our Lives viewers were disappointed, but we get that things happen and schedule conflicts come up. There was nothing Lilley could do, but she clearly cared about McCay and hopes the show delivers something wonderful anyway. We’ll likely get a quick onscreen explanation for why Theresa didn’t come home for her grandmother’s farewell.
Since Lilley hated not being able to return, several Days watchers piped up to offer words of support. “Jen, we all understand,” one viewer insisted. “We miss you every day on DOOL, but are so grateful that we get to still see you in movies!!!”
Another Days of Our Lives fan said, “Being the consummate actress Peggy was I’m sure she knew you would have been there if not for obligations. You could see how she loved you – you were a Brady! Will miss not seeing you.”
Sadly, Patsy Pease won’t be popping up as Kimberly Brady either. She had surgery and was recovering around the time of filming, so we’ll just have to appreciate the other comebacks we’re getting. Thankfully, Days of Our Lives spoilers say there’ll still be plenty of fond memories to warm our hearts.
