Instinct Recap 07/14/19: Season 2 Episode 3 "Finders Keepers"

Tonight on CBS their new drama series starring Alan Cumming called Instinct airs with an all-new Sunday, July 14, 2019, episode and we have your Instinct recap below. On tonight’s Instinct season 2 episode 3 called, “Finders Keepers,” as per the CBS synopsis, “Lizzie and Dylan work a case that provokes deep emotions for them when a 9-year-old boy goes missing on the eve of a judge’s decision in a bitter custody battle. Also, with Dylan’s help, Lizzie confronts some of her past childhood demons, and a major advancement presents itself in Dylan and Andy’s adoption search.”

We see a little boy named Robbie being read a book by his father, Will, he asks him if the judge tells him that he has to live with grandma and grandpa, will they finish the book. The man gets a text message that says, “time now,” and leaves the apartment.

Dylan and Daniel are working on an adoption book, Daniel says they have to finish it by Saturday. Dylan reminds Daniel that this is going to take some time.

Julien is with Liz, she is in a robe and joins him on the terrace, she hears him speak Russian and makes a joke about it. She asks him why he is at the precinct, how is she supposed to know if he is a good guy or bad guy.

Will gets back to his apartment, the grandfather is there and wants to see his grandson. They go up to the apartment and Robbie is gone.

Liz and Daniel are together, Liz says that the night before a nine-year-old boy vanished the night before a bitter custody battle. Special victims is working on it, they are not sure if it is a kidnapping or homicide. The grandparents are screaming for action, they say the last time NYPD blew it and got away with murder; he was accused of murdering his wife.

Dylan and Liz are on the scene, Jasmine tells them to drill done and question the family fast; every minute counts when it is a child. Liz is upset, the trail is cold and now she is called in. They are looking at the apartment from outside, Dylan says that he would be surprised if the father took the child through the window that is smashed. Liz tells Dylan that he hates these type of cases. Dylan tells her to stay balanced; Liz tells him to take the lead on this file.

Dylan questions the grandparents asks if Robbie could have run away; they say no way, he is afraid of the dark. The grandmother says that Robbie wanted to live with them, he said so. The grandfather says he took their baby girl from them and now their grandson as well. He goes on to say that Will was violent and he has kidnapped Robbie before, he only served a year. Will apparently was also on drugs.

Liz tells Will that she could charge him right now with neglect. He says he was gone for half an hour, he went to see a woman that he sponsors at AA. He says the woman didn’t show, so he headed back home. He stopped only to buy bleach, he needed a clean shirt for court. Furthermore, he claims that Robbie said that he wanted to live with him. Dylan asks about how met his wife, he met her at rehab, her name was Mimi.

Dylan says he didn’t like the grandfather’s attitude. He is wondering if either the grandparents or the father are hiding a plan that went wrong.

Dylan and Liz head to the courthouse, on the steps they see the Lockhearts, Robbie’s godparents. They talk to Mr. Lockheart, he says they loved having Robbie with them whenever they could because of everything he has been through. He says they were Mimi’s friends, they thought no way could Will have pushed her but then they learned about his temper. He goes on to say that this has become toxic and either side could have done anything.

Dylan and Liz meet with the judge who was going to prevail in the custody case. Liz asks if anyone could have known her decision in advance. The judge says that she and her husband belong to the same golf course as the grandparents, he may have guessed that her decision may have gone against him. His parting words to the judge was that if you place Robbie with his father, you will be the ones with the blood on your hands.

Liz gets a warrant to search the grandparent’s house, she finds three plane tickets to Havana and Robbie’s passport. The grandfather looks at his wife and says that he told her to cancel that. Kanter walks in and says they just found blood in the grandfather’s work van, he replies that he wants his lawyer.

Back at the station, Liz tells Ryan to find another place; they are bringing in the grandfather. Will is in the station and overhears that the blood they found in the van matches, Robbie. Ryan is now interrogating Will, Dylan and Liz are watching it.

Dylan and Liz question one of the grandfather’s workers, Mr.Henderson, he says he always played nice with Robby for his boss.

Ryan continues his interrogation, finds out that he paid a babysitter when he picked up his son, meaning if he went to a banking machine to get that cash, then it would be time stamped and that could be his alibi for his wife’s murder.

Dylan is wondering what was going on in Robbie’s brain.

Dylan and Liz go to see Mr. and Mrs. Lockheart, they ask them if they know anything about what happened to Robbie. Dylan says they know their daughters didn’t do anything wrong. One of the little girls says that they didn’t mean to break the window. Robbie needed them.

The Lockheart girls concocted a plan with Robbie to help him escape. They used a ball game to stay out late. They got the court date delayed. Robbie is at Lockheart’s country home. Dylan and Liz arrive there, Robbie is sitting down watching cartoons, he has blood on his arm.

At the hospital, the Lockhearts are there and they are thrilled that Robbie is ok. Julian is there with Liz, she tells him that he is a good guy.

In the end, Robbie will stay with the Lockheart family, until custody is worked out.
