All of the officers watch a promotional video made by John, Chen and Jackson. They laugh at their mistakes before telling them it was all for fun. They really didn’t need the video.

The gang runs through an exercise with a private consultant who has a fake bomb strapped to her with a dead man switch. They all get 10 words that will persuade her from hitting the switch. John succeeds with empathy while others fail. Later, the consultant offers Grey a job.

The precinct gets a call. A prison transport bus was in a major accident, crashing down a hill. Upon their arrival, some of the team helps the injured while others look for seven escaped prisoners. One has a gun. They start a grid search. Meanwhile, John comes across an officer in the bushes missing part of his leg. He is bleeding profusely and panicking. John radios for help. The officer dies seconds later. Before he can get his bearings from the sad moment, he is attacked by a prisoner from behind. They fight before John makes him. Chen and Jackson arrive.

With six prisoners still at large, the team begins a grid search around the area, working their way through several neighborhoods. John tells Talia how the officer asked him to tell a Beth he loves her. He needs to find her. Talia tells him to focus on keeping the civilians safe.

Tim and Chen come across several men from the neighborhood who have weapons and are ready to help. One man has grabbed another man on the street, telling them he got one. Chen and Tim correct the men. He isn’t a prisoner but a landscaper.

Talia and John come across a man who is trying to get home. He seems nervous and teary-eyed. John notices his kid isn’t in the back. He lets him go. Talia is mad. They wait and then follow the car where they find the prisoner in the truck with the child. They get the child out safely.

The consultant works with the team on finding the rest of the prisoners now that they are certain they have moved past their perimeter. Tim is annoyed. He wants to hit the streets not talk about where each could have gone.

Tim and Chen visit a reformed prisoner Tim knows to ask about one of the men on the run. Meanwhile, John is having trouble finding Beth. The consultant over hears him. They talk. She offers to help when they have time.

A prisoner Jackson nabs knows all about his father. He tells Jackson his dad broke the rules all the time when he was a young officer. He tells him his dad planted a gun on him. Jackson talks to Chen about it all and how this guy is telling him his dad is a dirty cop. Chen reminds him that the guy is a drug dealer in prison for life, why listen to him?

Night has fallen, they are still looking for the remaining prisoners. Talia and John visit a home of a relative on a hunch. When they arrive they do recon. Once inside, they find the prisoner digging money out of the fireplace while he holds onto a string that leads to a shot gun that is taped to the side of his aunt’s head. He hates prison and doesn’t want to go back. He wants to talk to someone who can give him deal, he tells John and Talia.

Chen and Tim arrive to find one of the prisoners. He is inside a home with his dad and wanted by a local gang who has started breaking things and vandalizing their cruiser outside. Meanwhile, the consultant has arrived to help John and Talia. She tells John he can do it. She is pretty sure the prisoner is a narcissist who isn’t going to pull the trigger. She was right. The SWAT team comes in, closing in on him. He lets John cuff him.

Help finally arrives to help Chen and Tim. John manages to find Beth. He gives her the message. She is sad but happy. Jackson chooses to ignore the prisoner about his dad. Tim tells Grey he wants to take the sergeant exam. John says goodbye to the consultant who gives him her number.

THE END!
