Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Greg Vaughan’s (Eric Brady) looming exit presents a big problem for the NBC soap. “Ericole” fans were thrilled when Eric finally tied the knot with Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker).
It’s nice that Days could give viewers this wedding before Eric’s departure, but that also brings a writing curveball.
DOOL writers couldn’t anticipate that Eric would be leaving the show, so they went all in on Eric and Nicole’s happiness. They’re newlyweds who are madly in love, so how will Days handle Eric’s upcoming exit? What does Eric and Nicole’s future look like now?
It’d be odd for Eric and Nicole to suddenly divorce over some huge issue. So far, Days of Our Lives spoilers don’t point to any issues at all. DOOL insiders hint that Eric likely wasn’t given some major exit arc.
It could be something as simple as Eric gets a new job out of town. Perhaps Eric could get back into photography and accept an assignment that whisks him off canvas for a bit.
That’s the kind of thing that’d buy Days some time and open up some possibilities. Eric might go missing or could even be presumed dead if that’s how DOOL decides to take things.
Then again, Eric could potentially pop in for future visits if they can work it out with Vaughan. We don’t see Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) all that often, but we know he’s in town.
However, the truth is Nicole’s probably going to need another love interest eventually. Days can prolong the inevitable, but love stories are a massive part of soaps.
There’s no sign of Nicole leaving at this point, which is great news. Arianne Zucker is a popular performer who has chemistry with lots of other hunks.
Eric was arguably Nicole’s best pairing, but there’s no need to toss her aside just because Eric’s leaving. There’ll be plenty of places to go with the character once Eric’s gone, but many of them would require a new romantic direction.
Days could put Nicole back together with Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) once he returns in the months ahead, but that feels a little too “been there, done that.” Could Nicole get a new man instead? It might be interesting if the show cast someone specifically with Nicole in mind.
Days was planning on bringing in a new love interest for Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) after the character was rested for four or five months. Since Alfonso opted to quit instead, that frees up some money for Nicole’s potential new man.
