Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) is gearing up for the fight of his life. As DOOL viewers know, Zoey Burge (Alyshia Ochse) has just informed Rafe that she’s still going to fight to get custody of David Ridgeway (Kyler Ends). And while Rafe talked all tough with Zoey, saying that he’d fight her with everything he had, the reality of the situation is that he’ll probably lose sole custody of David.
Even though Rafe has been a great dad to David ever since Jordan Ridgeway (Chrishell Stause) was murdered, there’s one big factor that Rafe simply doesn’t have on his side – he’s not related to David by blood. And since Zoey is related to David, she will probably have a huge advantage in the case. Zoey could very well get sole custody of David.
Sure, Zoey has some serious issues to contend with and explain to the court, since she’s Orpheus’ (George DelHoyo) daughter and since her brother and David’s father is Jordan’s killer.
But still, it’s difficult to imagine the court not seeing Zoey as a responsible mom, provided that she agrees to keep David away from the influence of Orpheus or Evan Frears aka Christian Maddox (Brock Kelly).
Of course, there is another option here for the judge to consider, even though it might not make either Rafe or Zoey entirely happy – there’s the possibility that the judge could rule in favor of joint custody of David, with both Rafe and Zoey getting the opportunity to raise him together as co-parents.
That might not be Rafe or Zoey’s first choice, but in the end, it could be what’s in David’s best interests.
We should note here that DOOL spoilers say that Galen Gering, who portrays Rafe, will be leaving the show sometime by autumn, so something is going to take Rafe off canvas in the near future.
What if Rafe and Zoey end up getting joint custody, and Rafe moves out of town to go live near David? Rafe is certainly devoted to David at this point, so it sounds like something he might do.
In fact, even if Zoey ends up getting full custody of David, she has said that she’d absolutely allow Rafe to see David on a regular basis. It’s always possible that Zoey could win full custody, take David out of town, and the Rafe could move to wherever it is that they live in order to be around David.
We’ll see what happens here, but given that Zoey is family to David, it seems likely that she’ll get either joint or full custody of him, and the chances of Rafe getting full custody seem slim to none.
