Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that things are looking pretty bleak for Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) these days. As DOOL viewers know, Rafe has spent over a year raising David Ridgeway (Caleb and Kyler Ends) as his own son, and he was even getting the adoption process rolling when things started to unravel. Suddenly, it became known that David’s nanny Even Frears aka Christian Maddox (Brock Kelly) was David’s biological father, and that threw a wrench in the adoption plans.
Still, Rafe figured that he had an advantage over Evan, since Evan had killed Jordan Ridgeway (Chrishell Stause) and had fraudulently infiltrated David’s life. But then it turned out that Evan’s dad is none other than DOOL supervillain Orpheus (George DelHoyo), and now everything has been turned upside down.
Both Evan and Orpheus want to claim David as their own, and now Zoey Burge (Kelly Thiebaud) has appeared on the scene as their very aggressive lawyer.
Of course, Zoey isn’t just a lawyer for Evan and Orpheus – she’s related to them by blood. Zoey recently revealed herself to be Evan’s big sister, which likely means she’s Orpheus’ daughter, too.
Either way, she’s related to David by blood, and that means that David now has three blood relatives in Salem and that doesn’t bode well for Rafe adopting the little boy at any point in the near future.
And in the new DOOL preview video for the week of April 20th, Zoey is shown telling Rafe glibly that she’s suing for custody of David. Now, whether she means that she’ll be suing on Evan or Orpheus’ behalf as their lawyer, or whether she’ll be suing for custody herself remains to be seen.
But it stands to reason that if she sues for custody herself, she probably has a great chance of winning, assuming that her record is clean.
Of course, no one could deny that Rafe has provided a stable, happy home for David since Jordan’s murder, but the fact of the matter is that David has next of kin who are ready and willing to care for him.
And while Evan’s and Orpheus’ pasts may preclude them from getting custody, Zoey seems to be an upstanding citizen who will probably look very good in front of a judge.
So it could very well come down to a battle between Rafe and Zoey for custody of David. And given that Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) will soon be giving Rafe some very bad news about his plans to adopt David, it looks like the adoption will be halted, as the issue of custody will need to be settled.
That’s terrible news for Rafe, who will face the very real possibility of ultimately having to hand over David to Zoey. At any rate, it looks like a real battle is going to ensue for David, and it could get nasty. Zoey seems like a first-rate lawyer who plays to win, so you never know what kind of tactics she could fling at Rafe and Justin.
Once Rafe fails in his attempt to win custody of David there isn’t much more left for him in Salem. Days of Our Lives spoilers made it clear that Galen Gering is off contract and DOOL has no plans to rehire him at this time.
