Jo and a team of FBI agents bust into a house. Piper and their suspect Benny are nowhere to be found. Jo finds Piper’s sweatshirt on the couch. Jo goes home and keeps researching. She calls a potential lead, realizing its 3 in the morning. Mia is awake in her room and upset too over Piper. Jo comforts her.

Jo arrives at the station the next morning. She is told that they have been pulled from the case. Seconds later Jo gets word that a body was found in the Bronx that matches Piper’s description. They send a photo. It isn’t Piper.

That night, Jo tells Alex she doesn’t know how much more she can take when the lights and TV flicker. It’s Piper. The next day, Jo rushes to work to tell Brooks that Piper tried to reach out and she needs to track the power surge. He doesn’t believe her but he will look into it. He calls her later to tell her a satellite in Pennsylvania was destroyed. She needs to get there. She heads home and packs a bag. She says goodbye to Alex and Mia.

Chris, now acting chief, watches the pier where something strange is going down. He heads back to the station where he talks to Alex. He tells him how he saw a crate being dragged to a boat and it looked like it was moving by electromagnetic power. Alex tells him they need to go take a look.

Jo and Brooks head out to find the local restaurant to check out the locals. Back at home, Mia doesn’t want to shut down her computer. She needs to reach out to Piper somehow. Ed tells her they can try and see what they can do after seeing Mia sad.

At a local diner, Brooks and Jo talk about how she and Alex have a pretty good relationship. He was married once. No kids. But he and his ex didn’t stay friends. They question a worker at a diner who recognizes Ben in a photo. She saw him at the local gas station. The owner is in the dining hall, she tells them. They track down the owner, Charlie. He doesn’t want to answer much and then runs out of the restaurant. He is struck by a car and lets off electromagnetic energy. He takes off in the car that hit him after forcing the driver out.

Back at the hotel, Brooks is having trouble wrapping his head around what he saw and what Piper is. He tells her he shouldn’t be a part of this case or the FBI. She checks his foreman to see if he is an AI. He, in turn, checks her, holding her wrist a little longer than normal. Jo’s phone buzzes, interrupting them.

Its night. Chris and Alex head to the pier and locate the crate. They open it. There is a strange liquid metal inside. They run when they hear someone coming.

Ed shows Mia what a HAM radio is. Maybe they can use it to talk to Piper.

Jo and Brooks head to a local warehouse where Charlie is. He is dying. They ask where Piper is but he won’t answer. He dies. Jo pulls the chip out of his neck.

Back at the station. Chris and Alex track Chris’ phone. He slipped it onto the boat that had the crate.

Brooks and Jo arrive outside of Charlie’s house to see if Piper in there. Jo comes face to face with Ben. She points her gun at him. It crumbles. Piper comes from out of the dark. She tells Jo to go home. She needs to help her people and she isn’t afraid. Piper leaves Jo screaming and crying behind, leaving with Benny.
