General Hospital (GH) spoilers remind viewers that Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes) revealed in a recent episode that he wanted to divorce Brad Cooper (Parry Shen). GH Fans will remember that after Lucas’s memories begin to come back to him at a going-away party held for he and Brad, a horrific revelation is made.
Brad confesses that the child he and Lucas had adopted is not the Wiley Cooper-Jones (Erik and Theo Olsen) everyone knows and loves. Instead, the baby Brad brought home from the hospital died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Soon after, Brad pulls off to the side of the road while on his way back to the hospital with his dead son in the car.
By strange coincidence, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) and Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) are on the same highway where they experience a terrible wreck. Nelle is pregnant and after leaving the car, gives birth on the side of the road.
Nelle sees Brad and approaches him. This very dark GH character then convinces Brad to help her switch out his dead child for her newborn (who is also the son of Michael Corinthos).
When Lucas remembers that Wiley is not truly his son, he is heartbroken. Yet, he chooses to do the right thing. Lucas tells Michael the truth even while understanding that this would mean Wiley would be taken from him. The police are called and Brad is taken to jail.
Heartache is made worse when Michael tells Lucas that it’s not Lucas’s fault and that he still wants Lucas to be in Wiley’s life. It’s obvious to everyone however, that things will never be the same again.
In a role reversal, Michael becomes Wiley’s father and Lucas suddenly becomes the man on the outside looking in. Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), his sister, urges him to allow himself to be comforted. After all, his entire family will be there for him. But, this does little good.
With all of Brad’s betrayals and constant lies fresh in his mind, Lucas emotionally retreats and finds solace in the routine of work. Unable to come to terms with the entire situation, Lucas speaks with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) about filing for divorce from Brad.
GH fans will remember however, that Brad and Lucas have been through a lot even before the horror of the baby swap. In fact, Brad lied to Lucas about Dr. Britt Westbourne’s (Kelly Thiebaud) baby too! At that time, Lucas forgave Brad.
The question is now whether events have truly destroyed Lucas’s love for Brad. Is it gone forever? Will he continue to move forward with a divorce, or is there a chance for a miracle reconciliation?
