General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) will find himself in deep despair once new episodes resume starting Monday, August 3. Sonny will be dealing with some emotional turmoil as well as a battle with his conscience during the week of August 3-7.
Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) will encourage Sonny to lean on her, but this may be something Sonny has to face alone – at least for the most part. There’s a good chance all this ties in with Mike Corbin (Max Gail) and the end-of-life choices Sonny’s being forced to make.
Sonny hates the idea of giving up on Mike, but Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) suggested that patients like Mike have usually given up. Once someone stops eating and is asleep more than he or she’s awake, it often says a lot about that person’s will to live.
Liz feels like Mike needs Sonny’s permission to let go, but that idea is tough for Sonny to wrap his head around. The truth is Sonny doesn’t want to let go either, but he’ll have no choice in upcoming new episodes. Sonny may face serious guilt once all this is over. He’ll inevitably think back on the years he missed with his dad.
There’s also the matter of that experimental trial that could’ve prolonged Mike’s life. Mike missed his chance after that shootout in Brooklyn shook him up. It’s obvious Mike couldn’t handle anything else in that state – and Sonny needed to get back to his family in Port Charles anyway.
Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) was behind that shootout, but Sonny’s the one who’s a mob boss and has enemies like Cyrus. As a result, Sonny may save some blame for himself, too. There’ll be a lot on Sonny’s mind as he eventually grieves and tries to find a path forward.
Fortunately, there’s a big surprise ahead for Sonny – and it could help him cope with losing his father. Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) is finally coming home! General Hospital spoilers say Zamprogna will return as Dante once new episodes heat up again, so Dante might even pop up for Mike’s funeral.
Dante cared about Mike and even found some common ground with him before his exit. GH fans will recall that Mike related to Dante, who wasn’t feeling like himself anymore. Both Dante and Mike’s brains were broken in a way, so that strengthened their connection.
Of course, Mike can’t have a typical funeral due to all the safety protocols on set. Large groups scenes aren’t happening anytime soon, but we could easily find out Dante was lurking in the shadows at an offscreen gathering. Dante might show up in a suit later and admit he was there – out of sight and paying his respects.
Regardless, Sonny’s loss should make him even more determined to reconnect with Dante, no matter how difficult that may be. Dante should be fully recovered when it comes to no longer posing a threat to his loved ones.
However, Dante may feel like a piece of him died. The PTSD, deprogramming process and loss of his family with Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan) could leave Dante with a bit of an edge.
Helping Dante could make Sonny feel useful and distract him from mourning over Mike. GH viewers can expect a father-son reunion in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
