General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that there’s a sad day coming on the show. As GH viewers know, Mike Corbin (Max Gail) is in pretty bad shape due to his declining condition. Mike’s Alzheimer’s Disease is in its final stages, and much of the time Mike is nearly comatose and doesn’t seem to be aware of what’s going on around him. It’s been tough for Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his family to take, and it certainly seems like Mike will die sometime very soon after new episodes of GH pick back up.
Of course, Sonny, Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), and the rest of the Corinthos family will want to pay their respects to Mike with a memorial service, but Sonny might be feeling skittish about the prospects of holding a service where all of his family members are present in one place. A
fter all, Sonny is also dealing with a very big threat right now – that of Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober). As GH viewers know, Cyrus is a menacing threat to Port Charles, and he wants nothing more than to get Sonny out of the way.
Cyrus is a drug kingpin, and he wants to channel drugs in and through Port Charles. Sonny’s an impediment to that, since he doesn’t like drugs in his territory.
Right now, Cyrus has been lying low and he and Sonny have a deal that their businesses won’t interfere with each other, but it’s also no secret to viewers that Sonny wants to take out Cyrus, and that Cyrus wants to take out Sonny at some point. But they each want to do the deed at the right time, and in such a way so they don’t get caught.
Well, it’s also the case that Sonny is very distracted from his situation with Cyrus, and that’s a direct result of what’s going on with Mike.
Sonny is devastated over Mike’s demise, and especially over the fact that Mike left Sonny with decision-making authority over whether Mike has a “no not resuscitate” order put in his medical file. The doctors seem to think that a DNR is what’s best for Mike, since he was no conceivable chance of getting better at this point, but Sonny is torn.
And when Mike’s time does come and he passes away, Sonny will be very distraught. Could Cyrus be waiting for Mike to die, so that Sonny’s really distracted when Cyrus strikes?
It would be a bone-chilling and calculated move, but Cyrus seems really dark and disturbed, and he just might be waiting for Sonny to be in the throes of grief and not thinking clearly when he decides to take Sonny out. And Cyrus could be wanting to take out not just Sonny, but key members of his family as well.
As GH viewers will remember, Cyrus went after Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) a while back, so he’s clearly not afraid to target other members of the Corinthos family.
Would Cyrus consider striking Sonny and other members of the family at an event like Mike’s memorial service? It would probably be relatively easy to do, and Cyrus could easily alibi himself by appearing somewhere publicly, like the Metro Court, at the same time as the memorial service.
It’s a terrible thought, but Mike’s memorial service could be a dangerous event for the Corinthos family, who would all be gathered in the same location at the same time.
