General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Thursday, September 17, reveal that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) sat with Mike Corbin (Max Gail) in his room at Turning Woods. Sonny softly told Mike that his mother was waiting for him, and that she never stopped loving him.
“I had so many dreams for us,” Sonny said, as he imagined a future of going bike riding with Mike, and of playing catch in the park with Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) and Wiley Quartermaine Corinthos (Erik and Theo Olson).
Then Sonny imagined having a lengthy conversation with Mike, during which the discussion turned to the fact that Mike wouldn’t live forever. In the vision, Mike asked Sonny why he kept imagining things that never happened between them.
Sonny guessed that he wanted more from his father, and he asked Mike why he wouldn’t let go. Mike urged Sonny to look in his heart and he’d know what to do.
Sonny then snapped out of the vision, and he told Mike softly that he was going to say goodbye to him so that Mike didn’t have to say goodbye. Sonny kissed Mike’s forehead and left him alone in the room as Mike looked peaceful and still.
Out in the lobby, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor), Michael, Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen), and Stella Henry (Vernee Watson) waited for word about Mike.
Stella commented that the ones we love are always with us and looking out for us. Josslyn turned to Brando and asked him about his comment on butterflies from earlier.
Just then, Sonny returned to the group, saying that Mike needed to be alone. Jason looked at Sonny as if to say that he did the right thing. Meanwhile, in Mike’s room, a light shined over Mike, and he opened his eyes and looked off to the side. “I know you,” Mike said happily into the light.
Out in the lobby, Sonny thanked Brando for being there, and Stella asked Brando about the butterflies. Brando said that after he came back from overseas, he imagined that the guys in his unit lived on and that butterflies were a sign. “Then it is so,” Stella said.
Sonny and Carly stepped into the hallway together, and Carly asked Sonny why he left Mike’s side. “I took a break…for him,” Sonny said.
Back in Mike’s room, the spirit of Courtney Matthews (Alicia Leigh Willis) appeared to Mike. Courtney reached out for Mike, saying, “Hello Dad, come with me.” Mike stood up out of the bed and said, “Courtney, it’s so good to see you, sweetheart.”
Sonny and Carly then entered the room, but they couldn’t see Courtney’s or Mike’s spirits standing there. Mike’s spirit turned to Sonny and told him that he was so sorry that this was hard for him. “You deserved better than you got from me, but you did right by me. Thank you for being my boy.”
Mike went on, saying, “Don’t think of me as that man lying there. Think of me as the father who came to his son for help.” Mike then went with Courtney up into the white light, and it wasn’t long before Sonny and Carly realized that Mike was gone. “That’s why I left the room,” Sonny said. “He was trying to protect me.”
Behind Sonny and Carly, a butterfly appeared where Mike’s and Courtney’s spirits had stood before they ascended into the light. Sonny embraced Mike one last time, and Carly said, “Safe passage, Mike. I love you.”
Carly then went back to the lobby and told everyone there that Mike was gone. Josslyn was emotional, so she went out to get some fresh air, and Michael asked how Sonny was doing, then he took off to go be with Sonny in Mike’s room. Willow hugged Carly, and Jason and Carly hugged and talked about family and what really matters in life.
Back in Mike’s room, Michael stood with Sonny near Mike’s bedside. Michael said that knowing Mike was a privilege that Sonny gave him. Sonny said that Mike was a good dad, and that Michael was going to be a wonderful father. Michael noted that he learned what he knows by watching Mike and Sonny.
At the cabin, Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) woke up in bed alone and called out for Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West). He ended up finding Ava with Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola) outside catching fireflies.
Turns out, Avery had a bad dream, but she was now feeling better and she wanted Nikolas to tuck her in. Nikolas agreed with a smile.
Later, after Avery was asleep, Nikolas told Ava that it was nice to see this side of her with Avery. “Is this your way of actually saying I might be human?” Ava said. Soon, Ava got a call from Carly saying that Mike was gone, and that Sonny wanted Avery back home tomorrow. Ava agreed and she asked that Carly send her condolences to Sonny.
At Kelly’s, Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) had lunch with Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy). Diane fretted over Alexis’ sobriety, and soon Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) approached the table to offer his condolences about Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan).
Ned reached out for Alexis’ hand, and Alexis winced in pain. Diane thought that Alexis should get her wrist checked out.
Diane took off and Ned stayed. After some conversation about Neil’s drug use and everything Alexis gave up for hm, Ned thought that they should go on a walk.
When Alexis tried to pick up her coffee cup, her wrist failed, and she dropped the cup. Ned decided that they were going to GH to get her wrist examined. Alexis balked, but Ned insisted.
At the coffee house, Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Briana Lane) had coffee with Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard). Brook Lynn lamented about her father, and Chase tried to get her to see that Ned was being sincere.
Brook Lynn thought that Ned was simply sorry because she got attacked, and that he still put ELQ above his family.
Soon, Brook Lynn got a call from Michael saying that Mike had passed, and Brook Lynn asked if she could come to the facility and offer her support. Michael said that would be welcomed.
In Monte Carlo at the casino, Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) and Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) were putting on their newlywed act while Robert explained that there was a security room in the back that he wanted to get into, but he needed a diversion.
Olivia started playing cards and gambling, and she made a scene talking loudly.
Soon, a young man sat down near Olivia at the table, and it was Ethan Lovett (Nathan Parsons). Olivia was stunned to see Ethan gambling rather than paying his respects to his mother, and Ethan said that he was trying to track down Holly Sutton’s (Emma Samms) killer.
Olivia explained that Robert got a call presumably from Holly and it came from this casino.
In the back area of a casino, Robert pretended to be drunk and looking for the bathroom as he infiltrated a high-security area. A burly guy made him leave before he entered a room in the back area.
Robert returned to Olivia on the casino floor, and Ethan promptly punched Robert, blasting him for walking out on Holly.
This caused a scene, and Winston Rudge (David S. Lee) hurried over with some security guys and ushered Robert and Ethan away. Robert and Ethan ended up handcuffed to chairs sitting back to back in some room.
Ethan told Robert that he created the scene on purpose to get them back there. Robert said he had a plan as he gazed at the floor.
Out on the casino floor, Winston approached Olivia, who inquired about where her husband and the other gentleman were taken. Olivia nervously said that she could guarantee their good behavior from here on out, and Winston said that he was sure that “Liam” wouldn’t be here much longer. Olivia looked unnerved.
In the back room, Ethan and Robert got out of their handcuffs, and they agreed to go find Holly. Suddenly Winston and his security guys barged in the room. “Going somewhere, Mr. Scorpio?” Winston asked.
