The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that the CBS soap is facing a real conundrum. Most Y&R fans can agree that Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott) is a fantastic actor and has really made the role his own. Unfortunately, there are still some problems with Billy that need to be addressed.
Billy’s behavior has been downright insufferable in recent months, but Thompson has delivered excellent performances in spite of it all. It’s tough to understand a lot of the choices Billy’s made, but Thompson always puts his heart into his work. He’s been a great recast, but the writing for Billy leaves a lot to be desired.
Of course, that’s something that could be fixed with the right path for Billy, but Y&R doesn’t seem to able to nail one down. We can all hold out hope that Billy will get his life together eventually, but that doesn’t fix another issue regarding Billy. It seems like The Young and the Restless just can’t find a love interest that works – at least without Gina Tognoni around as Phyllis Summers.
Michelle Stafford stepped back in the role of Phyllis, and now this pairing just doesn’t feel like a good match. Thompson’s Billy and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) have arguably never been exactly magical. “Villy” was a big duo back in the day, but recasts change things in terms of chemistry. Sometimes you just have to let go and move on with other options.
Alas, Billy and Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) don’t seem like the way to go either. Even has friends, there’s never been much of anything exciting going on. When it comes to a soap couple, you want to see that spark – the potential for friends to become so much more. Amanda and Billy just don’t have “it.”
Most of the show’s ladies are tied up in pretty solid love stories or have more reasonable possibilities. Thompson’s Billy has solid chemistry with Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson), but Chloe’s expecting a baby with Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart). A “Chilly” reboot clearly isn’t happening anytime soon.
So what should The Young and the Restless do? They could try casting someone else with Billy in mind, but there’s another option to explore. Should Y&R try to get Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) back on a more regular basis? During Lily’s scenes with Billy in January, many fans thought they worked really well together.
“If Christel ever came back permanently I could ship to hell out of Billy & Lily,” one fan said in Twitter. “Jason & Christel have wonderful sparkly chem.” “Lily and Billy…chemistry HELLO!!!” another Y&R viewer tweeted. “Lily and Billy. Digging this vibe,” one more fan insisted.
It might be worth giving this a shot, especially since Billy was able to connect with Lily. He couldn’t quite open up to Lily like he’d been doing with Amanda, but Lily was still able to get through to Billy. She’s worked through an identity crisis of her own and come out on the other side, so she might be the ideal person to help.
Whatever the case, The Young and the Restless spoilers, updates and news say Billy has more struggles ahead of him. Maybe Y&R should ditch Victoria and Amanda to focus on someone else for Billy – someone who might be good for him like Lily. A love interest reboot might be exactly what Billy needs!
