The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Dina Mergeron's Death Ends Epic Storyline – Marla Adams Deserves An Emmy

The Young and the Restless spoilers indicate that Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) will die on Y&R. The climax of this arc is expected to happen imminently. As viewers know, Adams was once a part of Y&R’s cast. She arrived in the mid 1980’s, when the actor began portraying John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) former wife.

Dina was a secondary character, who returned for some brief appearances through the years. But Adams return to the cast in 2017 proved to elevate Dina to heights she’d never reached in past years and electrify those who value great acting, meaningful scripts, and splendid production values.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – It’s Not Yesterday Once More

Dina abandoned her husband and children approximately twenty years before viewers ever met this character. That event happened before Y&R went on the air in 1973.

The invented Abbott backstory had always been something devoted viewers had learned about through dialogue. But creativity allowed those who were watching in 2017 to actually see Dina (Cathy Marks) in her younger days.

Beautifully filmed, period scenes of the Abbott’s, mostly seen in the family home, enabled Dina’s story to be told as it never had been before. The writing and production efforts were Emmy worthy.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – Dina Mergeron’s Alzheimer’s Story Makes Impact

The greatness of daytime lies in its ability to present escapist fantasy, while also weaving topical issues into the genre. So, to see Dina diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and then to watch her and the Abbott family’s pained reaction play out over the course of a few years was deeply impactful.

Viewers watch the show when unbelievable moments are intended to entertain. But soap opera supporters stand with the actors and all off-stage personnel when an issue as serious as Alzheimer’s is written in.

Viewers, actors, backstage employees, or whoever have likely been touched, in some personal way, by this terrifying disease. Adams conviction in playing the afflicted Dina became one of the more astounding efforts in recent show history. She and all of her colleagues created an indelible arc within a legendary show.

Young And The Restless Spoilers – Marla Adams’ Sendoff  Touches Past and Future?

Ideally, Dina would make her way to heaven with John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) escorting her part of the way. That would tie the 1960’s, when Dina made her decisions, to the 1980’s and then to today.

Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), who had the hardest route to accepting her mother, but lovingly did, Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland), Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway), Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson), and others need and deserve full closure after all that’s happened.

Here’s hoping that everyone who cared about Dina realizes the peace of mind and heart they deserve. And here’s wishing that Adams returns, as Douglas has in past years, so that Dina can offer advice from the great beyond. Yes, her Y&R story only needs to end on this earth.

Here’s also wanting Adams to earn the Daytime Emmy award in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category at next year’s ceremony.
