The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) is going to find himself upset and confused. As Y&R viewers know, the Abbott family has just spent its final moments with Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams), who passed away peacefully in the Abbott living room after a meaningful reunion with her beloved “teardrop of love” necklace.
Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that MOST of the Abbott family spent its final moment with Dina.
There was one person who was notably absent from Dina’s final days and hours, and that’s Theo. Of course, Theo has always had a bit of a complex about not being considered to be a “real” Abbott, even though there’s no doubt that Dina was his blood relative and that he cared for her deeply.
Dina and Theo had some sweet moments together, and Theo definitely had a soft spot for his grandma.
And that’s why it’s going to hurt when Theo learns from Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) about Dina’s passing. On the episode to air on Monday, October 19, Kyle will sadly tell Theo that Dina has died, and Theo will be stunned.
In fact, Theo will act as if he had no idea that Dina was in such bad shape. Y&R viewers know that various characters have been talking about Dina being in palliative care and gasping for breath at night, but it seems that no one bothered to tell Theo that the end was near.
And to make matters worse, Kyle will let it slip that Dina died with “everyone” around her. That’s going to immediately peeve Theo, since Kyle still won’t view him as a member of the family, and apparently neither will have anyone else in the Abbott clan, since nobody clued Theo in about how Dina was in the very final stages of life.
Surely, there will be a funeral for Dina, and Theo will be invited to that, but it probably won’t be enough of a gesture for him. Theo may lash out at his family, accusing them of cutting him out of a precious goodbye to his grandmother, and frankly, he’d have a point.
Will we see Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland), and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) apologize to Theo for their slight? They may, but it might come too late for Theo.
One wonders if Theo will turn on his family now that this has happened. Theo certainly detests Kyle, and his exclusion from Dina’s final moments might make him turn on the rest of the family as well.
Jack and Theo have always gotten along well, even after Theo was fired from Jabot. Jack has always striven to make Theo feel welcome in the family, but this time he dropped the ball.
Maybe Theo will decide that he’d like to get revenge on the Abbotts in some way. It’s hard to imagine how he could do that, aside from using his platform at Chancellor Communications to somehow slight the family, much like his boss Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) wounded the Newman family by publishing the exposé on Adam Newman (Mark Grossman).
We’ll see how Theo reacts, but something tells us the likelihood of Theo and Kyle ever reconciling is totally shot now.
At any rate, it will be interesting to see how Theo channels his anger over being dissed by his family. How do you think Theo will retaliate?
