The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Thursday, January 16 Review - Sharon Tearfully Reveals Stage 2 Cancer To Nick - Summer Confides In Mariah

The Young and the Restless spoilers review for Thursday, January 16, tease that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Faith Newman (Alyvia Alyn Lind) will somberly linger over breakfast at Nick’s place, both worried about Sharon Newman (Sharon Case).

Nick will agree to go talk with Sharon and find out what’s going on. He and Faith will embrace anxiously, and Nick will take Faith to the ranch to wait while he heads to Sharon’s.

Meanwhile, Sharon and Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) will wait at the oncologist’s office for the doctor to come in. Rey will reassure Sharon and will be ready to take notes on everything. Finally, the doctor will come in and Sharon will ask her for complete honesty.

The doctor will confirm that Sharon had a strong chance of beating this. Sharon will then learn that she has Stage 2 cancer, and that she needs chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, then surgery.

The doctor will answer all of Sharon’s questions and will urge her to do all the research that she can. She’ll recommend a book to Sharon to help her through the process. After they get back home, Sharon will seem pensive and will note that she likes her doctor but that she’s overwhelmed. She’ll ask Rey to go get the book, and once Rey leaves, she’ll break down in tears.

Sharon will cry alone, when there’s a knock on the door. She’ll try to compose herself and will ask through the door who it is. It will be Nick, but Sharon will pretend to have a bad cold.

Nick will say that he knows it’s not a cold and ask her to open the door. She’ll soon learn that Faith found her note, and she’ll feel awful. Sharon will tearfully say that she has cancer, and Nick will be somber.

They’ll sit on the couch and talk about how the doctor was optimistic, and finally Sharon will break down, saying that this really sucks. Nick will offer his comfort and he’ll tell her that Faith will be ok, and that she’ll handle the news better than Sharon thinks – she’s a strong kid, just like her mom.

Sharon won’t want anyone but family to know just yet, and Nick will agree to keep the news to himself.

Nick will tell Sharon that she doesn’t have to handle everything on her own, and they’ll embrace. Rey will then come home, and Sharon will tell him that Nick knows. Rey will say, “Good,” and he and Nick will nod at each other.

Meanwhile, on the new episode of Y&R on Thursday, January 16. Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) will play a song for Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) over a video call, and Mariah will note that it sounds edgier than her music normally is.

Tessa will explain that she’s been writing music with Tanner Watts (Chase Coleman), which will briefly give Mariah pause. Still, Mariah will love the song, and she’ll think it will be a mega hit.

Mariah and Tessa will hang up, and Mariah will notice Summer Newman (Hunter King) glumly walk into Society. Summer will head to the bar, and Mariah will call out to her, wondering where her matching poodles are, referring to Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson).

Summer will note that she could say something snide back, but she’s going to be an adult.

Summer will way that she just doesn’t feel like sparring with Mariah today, and Mariah will wonder what’s bugging her. Summer will decide to confide in Mariah since she’s good friends with Kyle.

Summer will explain how Kyle is letting Theo get to him, and if he’s not careful, then the whole thing will blow up. Mariah will opine that Theo and Kyle are big boys and that they should handle their own situation.

She’ll go on to wonder why Summer is so worried about the whole situation, and Summer will explain that Kyle and Lola Abbott (Sasha Calle) were fighting the other day.

Mariah will wonder whether Summer is upset that the men aren’t fighting over her, which will upset Summer, who will say that she’s just trying to be a good friend to them both. Mariah will then have a change of heart and will offer to talk with Kyle, which will make Summer happy.

Of course, Summer isn’t totally innocent in all of this, nor is she just a bystander. She clearly still has a thing for Kyle, which Theo has readily picked up on and is using to his advantage to irk Kyle at every turn.

And while it seems that there’s a side of Summer that doesn’t want to see Kyle’s relationship with Lola hurt by Theo, perhaps there’s another side of her that knows this is the only way she’ll have a shot with Kyle. It’s bound to be conflicting for her.
