Bash was asked about his friend Khaled Abdullah. The two men used to work together at the restaurant and Khaled ran off after the accident. He knew he couldn’t speak to the cops. He was in Canada illegally. Khaled is Libyan, not Syrian and so his request for asylum was denied. He now was also without a job because he couldn’t return to the restaurant. Khaled had nothing and the only person he could turn to was his good friend Bash. Bash agreed to let Khaled stay at his apartment. Khaled could only stay as long as Bash’s younger sister Amira was with the neighbors and she was staying with them as long as Bash was at work.

Bash got his dream job as a doctor. He trained in Syria and he needed his transcripts from Syria in order to continue being a doctor in Canada. Bash’s friend Khaled got some of his forgeries. They were forgeries of real grades and so Bash could have used them. He just chose not to. Bash didn’t want to fake his way. He wanted the hospital to accept him on his own merits and so Bash was honest with Dr. Jed Bishop. He told Bishop that he won’t be able to get his transcripts out of Syria because of the civil war there. He even asked if the board that was deciding if he should stay has been watching the news lately. Bash’s home country was always on the news and there was always strife.

Only York Memorial and the board that runs it wanted an interview with Bash. They wanted to see him in person before they rendered a decision about his case. Bash was told about it and he agreed to make himself available. He also kept working at the hospital. He was under Atwater’s direction and she chose to put him in the backseat. She didn’t want him to create another mistake as he did on his last shift. Atwater doesn’t really trust him or the authority in which Dr. Bishop hired him. She thought Bash needed to be watched and so she watched him. She gave him what she thought were the easier cases.

Like the Abbott boy. Tristan Abbott came in with a mysterious illness and his father didn’t want him to be treated too invasively. He was apparently an anti-vaxxer. He gave his older son one vaccine and he had a bad reaction to it. So, Mr. Abbott chose to forgo vaccines forever for both of his sons. It took his older son Max revealing that Tristan was unvaccinated for the doctors to run some tests and they found Diphtheria. Tristan was highly infectious. He could put the whole ward at risk and so at first the other doctors thought it was this sickness that was affecting this seemingly healthy young man, but it wasn’t. The young man died because he drank a bottle of soy sauce as part of pledge week.

The soy sauce on top of drinking was flooding salt throughout his body. He had needed help and he didn’t get it because he was focusing on his friend who had a head wound. This head wound was another part of pledging. It seems both boys just wanted to fit in. They risked their health and even their lives just to join a fraternity. One boy died and the other now has regrets. The death of the one boy greatly affected Bash. It was his first death here in Canada and that seemed wrong to him. It was like an unvaccinated boy. The boy had all these chances to take vaccines meanwhile back home there were people struggling to bring vaccines into the country.

Bash also had money to worry about. He didn’t know when he’ll be paid by the hospital and he had bills to worry about. His rent was due. He could lose the apartment if he didn’t give the landlord the money he was asking for and so Bash went back to work in a mood. He didn’t have time for Mr. Abbott. The man complained about every test or procedure they had to run on his sick child. Bash was so tired of it that he confronted the father. He told the father that it was his fault that his son was sick and that he should have treated him when he had the chance. Now, it could be too late. The child could die and it would be because he wasn’t vaccinated.

Thankfully, Tristan’s brother Max was vaccinated. He got vaccinated behind his parents’ back when he turned sixteen and so that means he could be in the same room as his little brother. Max was going in there when his father spotted him. His father asked him what he was doing and so Max came out with the truth. He told his father he was vaccinated. He also wanted to support his brother only Tristan’s situation changed. Tristan’s airwaves were slowly being blocked and so the doctors had to put in a breathing tube. Bash did this one himself. He was guided by Atwater and she later told him well done for the work he did.

Bash also went to Legal for that meeting. They wanted to know why they should take him on without his transcripts and Bash couldn’t give them a reasonable answer. All he did say is that he was deemed an enemy of the state by Syria by sneaking vaccines. This is why Syria and its officials do not want to assist Bash. They don’t want to help him in any form and so he is on his own. Bash shouldn’t have told Legal all of that. He put himself out there and he doesn’t know what the hospital will do now that it knows everything. Bash didn’t feel like he could ask about his paycheck after he had that discussion. He also knew he needed money and so he took out a loan.

The loan got the landlord to back down. Bash also talked to his sister and he swore to her that everything was alright.

Bash even spoke with Khaled and his friend was going to stay a shelter nearby.
