In tonight’s Alaskan Bush People episode, things were different without Billy Brown. The patriarch passed away a while ago and now his family is continuing his legacy. But this latest season was filmed six months before his passing. It was filmed as they were building the dream house and this season also takes place before a sudden wildfire devastated their lands.

This current therefore took place before tragedy hit the family. Billy spoke this season about making a better life for his family and he even introduced the idea of a zip line. He wanted to create a zip line going from the anchor tree to the main house. Some of the siblings decided to focus on that to realize Billy’s dream and others like Noah and Snowbird went looking for resources on the land they could use for other endeavors.

They also talked about Snowbird’s love life. She wasn’t dating anyone at the moment and her family have started asking about it. Like her mother wants her to have kids. It’s just kids weren’t on the table for her right now and Snowbird wasn’t sure about finding someone. She didn’t know of a guy who would love her cats or who would approve of just how many there are and so she was fine being alone.

It was her family who kept reminding her that for every person there was someone out there who would understand them. Snowbird was being convinced of this as her siblings found a new mine as they were clearing the area for the zipline. Bear and his sister Rain found the mine. They’ve always believed, like their dad, that there was untapped potential in the area.

Their father liked to believe there was possible gold out there. His children investigated every mine they came across and there was plenty of them on the property but this recent mine was off the beaten path. It was also showing quartz deposits. The area was originally the start of a gold mining town and the miners were forced to give it up because they ran out of tools and money and that meant there was an actual chance of finding gold.

The siblings decided to bench the mine as they finished clearing the path for the zipline and so their plane was always to come back mine. They simply needed to do a few things first. The family has been out in the bush for thirty years. They were working on building their dream home and that home was North Star Ranch.

Only at their heart, they were a family. Some of the older kids missed the time they used to all spend together and so there was nostalgia for their past even as they built a new home together. Everyone was involved in the project. Then there was Rainy and she was helping her sister interest a guy. Rainy said that Snowbird goes into town like she doesn’t care and she dresses that way and so Rainey puts on her clothes to show her what she looks like. They also did some roleplay.

Rainy pretended to be a guy and he tried to talk to Snowbird and she wasn’t having it. She was solely focused on her pretend burger she was pretending to eat. Rainy days that Snowbird just thinks the perfect guy is going to ride upon a white horse. And so she did her best to wake her sister up.

Snowbird is never going to find someone if she doesn’t put herself out there. The wolf pack later returned to the mine and Bear went scaling down. Noah meanwhile went looking at boats with his wife and son. He had come up with this grand scheme involving a boat and so he went around at junkyards looking for the best one. His brother Gabe on the other hand was the next one to involve Snowbird’s advice.

He also said to put herself out there because he knows they’re starting with a drawback of being around mostly family and they didn’t have many interactions with members of the opposite sex that went family. Gabe had to cross that hurdle when he got married. He now wants his sister to be as happy as him and, when she wasn’t resisting advice, she still had a hard time because Loomis wasn’t filled with eligible men.

It was usually men over eighty hanging about. Snowbird didn’t want to date any of them and so that put a massive deterrent on their quest to find someone. She went on to assist her family in creating the zip line. Their first attempt met with failure because the zip line kept snagging in certain places so they tried a second time but they forgot Bear was out in the wood waiting for them and that in turn created issues.

The family never stops moving. If it wasn’t the zip line, it was something else. They were constantly up to something and Gabe was feeling the fatigue. Gabe decided to do something nice for his sisters. He filled a tub with water. Both Snowbird and Rainey got in and the tub was in the back of a pickup truck and so he also took them for a ride and that was probably the closest they’ve ever gotten to a water park.

Then the wildfires happened. The family was forced to evacuate and they hadn’t been able to take everything. The community found out about their situation. They came together to donate literally everything and so the family didn’t have to worry about clothes or food. They did have to worry however about looters. Their friend Pat warned them about looters.

Looters were taking advantage of the evacuation to go into homes and steal everything that wasn’t nailed down. The wildfire had shifted with the window. This gave the family the opportunity to save most of their livestock and unfortunately two of the horses were missing. Snowbird was hoping that they might have escaped the first. And unfortunately, odds are that they were killed after the fire shifted back onto the ranch.

Two weeks after evacuating, the wildfire that displaced the Browns was finally under control. The family went up their mountain to survey the damage and the fire had been devastating. The zipline was no more. The forest it went through had been destroyed and there was more damage beyond that. The area no longer looked the same. All those thriving trees were now gone and neither Billy nor Ami could see the damage for themselves. They instead sent their kids. The duck house was destroyed. The rabbit habitat was gone. The ostriches were fine and Bear’s container home was fine. His possessions were saved by the container itself and so he returned to a home he could still use.

Noah’s home was destroyed. His mash tent was destroyed. His tractor was still okay. But it was the only thing still standing after everything and so Noah lost a lot of valuables. He lost certain things he planned on passing down to his son Eli when he was older. Rainy’s things were okay. The fire surrounded her property without touching it. Snowbird’s home was gone. She knew it was gone from day one and that soften the blow when she saw how charred everything turned out to be. It just didn’t stop her from crying. The family waited to survey the main house until Billy and his wife could come up for a visit. Together they saw the house was still standing. It was one of the few things to survive. There was nothing of the pole barn left and so the family was actually worst off than where they started in certain areas.

Snowbird wondered out loud when will they stopped being tested. They go through some tragedy or another every few years and so she wanted the tragedies to end. Unbeknownst to her at the time, she would go through the worst time of her life when she later died. The pain was only just beginning with the fire.

THE END!
