Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers indicate that Freddie Smith recently revealed he would NOT be coming back to DOOL and that he wouldn’t return as Sonny Kiriakis if asked. On a new episode of The Freddie and Alyssa Show, Smith opened up about the topic with his wife Alyssa Tabit Smith by his side.
Since Days fans are always curious about the possibility of Sonny rejoining the action in Salem, Smith felt he couldn’t avoid answering the question any longer.
Smith didn’t want to offer false hope or leave viewers hanging, so he decided to tackle the issue head-on and speak from the heart.
Smith explained that the plan was always to move to Florida and be closer to relatives since he intends to start a family of his own with his wife.
After Freddie Smith was let go from the show along with Chandler Massey (Will Horton), the pandemic hit and bumped up their timeline for moving.
Now that the happy couple’s settled into their new life together, they’re away from the whole LA scene and are focused on what’s ahead.
Smith admitted that he’d given this some serious thought and determined that it was time to rip off the bandage so people could accept his choice not to return to Days.
“A couple months ago, I did make the decision for ourselves, our futures and everything that if Days were ever to call – I know this is going to be disappointing to so many of you – but I would not go back,” Smith insisted.
Smith confessed the choice brought him guilt in some ways because he knows Sonny Kiriakis had an impact on many lives.
Smith got asked about whether he’d come back a lot, even by his own friends and family members. However, this is the decision that’s right for Smith and his wife since it’ll allow them to close the door on that chapter.
“And that decision didn’t come lightly, and it didn’t come overnight. I genuinely thought about that because I knew with the soap opera world that a day probably would come…” Smith said.
Even so, Smith reiterated that if DOOL does call, he’s not going to do it and will turn them down.
Smith didn’t feel it was healthy to keep one foot in the past and one foot in the future. He suggested letting go allowed him to be courageous and make different choices because he doesn’t have the NBC soap to fall back on anymore.
Smith genuinely seemed determined to move on, so it sounds like viewers will just have to accept he’s not making a comeback as Sonny Kiriakis.
It’s possible the show will recast at some point, so that’s something to keep in mind. Regardless, it’s good to know where Freddie Smith stands! We’ll offer updates as other news comes in.
