Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Tuesday, August 17, reveals that EJ DiMera (Dan Feurriegel) received a secret passageway visitor – and Paulina Price (Jackee Harry) explained how she’d protected Lani Price (Sal Stowers) from her abusive ex.
As Gabi Hernandez DiMera (Camila Banus) wrapped up a phone call with Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash), she found Sami Brady DiMera’s (Alison Sweeney) necklace outside the Hernandez house.
Gabi went inside and got confirmation that it didn’t belong to Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun), so she pushed Ava’s buttons by suggesting it belonged to one of Rafe Hernandez’s (Galen Gering) secret girlfriends.
Ava thought Jake was more likely to be rolling around in the bushes with someone, but Gabi insisted this necklace might belong to Nicole Brady (Arianne Zucker) since Rafe had always had a soft spot for her.
Gabi pointed out that Nicole was single now and was clearly trying to rile Ava up.
After Gabi put the necklace on and suggested “finders, keepers,” she hinted that even Ava didn’t seem convinced about Rafe’s loyalty. Meanwhile, Nicole cried in her bedroom about how she had to find a way to let Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) go, even if it killed her.
Rafe soon found Nicole in despair and offered up Duke the teddy bear, who’d previously gone missing. Nicole thought Rafe knew exactly what she needed and was apologetic about crying on his shoulder.
However, Rafe made it clear there was nowhere he’d rather be and gave Nicole the pep talk she needed to get out of bed.
While Nicole was brushing her teeth, Ava called Rafe to fill him in on her homemade manicotti. She offered to bring a plate down to the station, but he admitted he was at Nicole’s place right now.
Ava said Nicole was her friend as well and offered to bring dinner over, but Rafe assured Ava that he had it under control and would be home for leftovers.
After Ava hung up and dumped the tray of manicotti in the trash, Gabi sauntered back in and once again preyed on Ava’s insecurities about Nicole.
As for Rafe, he brought Nicole some mac and cheese before they playfully fought over the bowl.
At the police station on Tuesday’s Days episode, Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) gave Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) updates on all the letter drama.
Allie was confused and wondered if Lucas wanted Sami back, but he suggested it didn’t matter what he wanted since Sami wanted to repair her marriage.
Allie learned the charges had been dropped and let Lucas know she was sorry before she dashed off to get Henry Horton (Jayna and Kinsley Fox) from Roman Brady (Josh Taylor).
At the DiMera mansion, EJ insisted that unlike the phoenix, his marriage wouldn’t be rising from the ashes.
Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) eventually found out about Sami cheating on EJ with Lucas and was hopeful that his brother could find it in his heart to forgive Sami once things calmed down.
EJ thought that was because Chad wanted to repair his own marriage, but Chad denied that and simply thought that both marriages were worth fighting for.
After EJ mentioned Sami disappearing after previously promising to fight for their relationship, he shut the conversation down and intended to focus on his role at DiMEra Enterprises.
Once Chad left the room, EJ talked to Stefano DiMera’s (Joseph Mascolo) portrait and suggested his father was right about Samantha.
EJ felt his father had taught him that sometimes in love and in business, you have to know when to cut your losses – even if it means cutting some throats.
When EJ looked up, he suddenly realized Allie was standing there and grew concerned about what she’d overheard.
Allie insisted she didn’t hear anything, so EJ brushed it off as being embarrassed over confiding in the portrait.
EJ was pleased to hear about the charges against Allie getting dropped. Allie mentioned that she’d heard what happened between EJ and Sami.
Allie knew better than anyone how selfish Sami could be, but she also knew how much Sami loved EJ and hoped maybe he could give her another chance.
EJ argued that the marriage was over and that Sami couldn’t do much fighting for it anyway since she never showed back up.
Allie thought it was strange for Sami to claim she was going to get permission to stay from Gabi and never return to the mansion, so she decided to pay Gabi a visit and see what she could find out.
Once Allie was gone, EJ was startled over someone entering through the secret passageway.
Days fans will soon see that someone is EJ’s son, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman), so stay tuned for a family reunion.
At home on Tuesday’s DOOL episode, Eli Grant (Lamon Archey) encouraged Lani to forgive Paulina – if not for Paulina, then for Lani herself.
Across town, Paulina talked to Olivia Price (Marla Gibbs) about how Lani grew up thinking she was her aunt. Paulina insisted she was Lani’s mother and thought back to falling in love with Lani right after she gave birth.
It broke Paulina’s heart to give Lani up, but Olivia argued that Paulina had no choice – that none of them did. Paulina had an abusive ex named Ray who never would’ve left Paulina or Lani alone if Tamara hadn’t stepped up to take her.
They discussed how Tamara insisted it was all or nothing, so she made Paulina keep her distance.
As for the Paris trip when Lani was a little girl, Tamara called Olivia and had her force Paulina to cancel the trip. Olivia pushed Paulina to keep her mouth shut about all this since Lani didn’t need to feel like her whole life was a lie.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Lani called out to her auntie, so Paulina went against Olivia’s wishes and answered.
“Big Mama?!” Lani exclaimed when she entered and saw Olivia.
After Lani embraced Olivia and caught up with her briefly, she filled Paulina in on Ciara Brady (Victoria Konefal) being found – and reuniting with Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) instead of marrying Theo Carver (Cameron Johnson).
Lani admitted that she came to offer forgiveness for everything, so Olivia thought that was very generous. All Lani asked in return for was for Paulina to promise she’d never lie to her again.
Lani wanted a clean slate with no more secrets, so Olivia piped up that of course Paulina could promise that!
However, Paulina said she could speak for herself. She felt it was high time she did and confessed that she had something to tell Lani.
