In tonight’s episode of DDWTD, the children loved being back home. They were especially loving their new bunk beds that their dad had built and put in while they were gone and so the kids loved playing on them. They love roughhousing. The children had to be warned to be careful around their brother, Diez.

Diez recently had surgery on her skull because he suffered a condition in which his skull was restricting his brain and so he had to have surgery to fix it. It’s been a week since the surgery. He was recovering and he could see again. But now he’s not eating. He doesn’t really eat besides things like crackers and rice and candy. The family is just glad he’s getting calories from somewhere and they’re concerned because Diez has been losing weight.

The family was preparing Diez for his next appointment with the doctor. They were also figuring out how to celebrate Black History Month because usual school was still suspended and so homeschooling meant they get to be a little more creative. The adults don’t have to focus on just Martin Luther King or Rosa Parks. They never bring up contemporary figures like Kamala Harris.

The adults wanted to teach the kids about several figures and so they were coming up with plans to celebrate the month. The adults also had a new concern. They were concerned about Darian. Darian was the eldest child and she was also a teenage girl. She wanted to start dating. She was at the age where all her friends were dating and she wanted to have a boo as well.

Darian was also interested in a young man named Little Mike. The two used to play together as kids when they were just babies and then they grew apart as they got older. They still live in the same community. Their parents are friends and so Darian came across Little Mike playing basketball. He was not so little anymore. The kid was taller than she was and she was interested in him.

She asked him if he wanted to hang out. He seemed open to it and then Darian revealed she was going to be hanging out with him to her father. Her father was showing her the ropes to his business. They were also enjoying quality together when Darian mentioned running into Little Mike and that’s what concerned Deon.

Deon still sees his daughter as a little girl. He also remembers what it was like at that time in his life and he feels he needed to guide his daughter through this new phase of hers. Deon reached out to Little Mike’s parents. He was friends with Mike Sr and so he reached out to him to see if it was okay if their kids hanged out together.

He got the all-clear from Mike Sr. Deon then set up a date between the two youngsters and it was going to be supervised by himself and his mother. GG also knew what it was like at Darian’s age. She got pregnant with her older son around Darian’s age. She knew the risks and that’s why she decided to help her son chaperone Darian’s date. Only it didn’t feel like a date anymore with the adults coming.

Darian said it felt less like a date and more like friends hanging out with the adults coming with them. She was disappointed and Deon meanwhile thought he was guiding her. He thought his concern as a parent warranted some slight embarrassment. He was doing what he felt was right and he didn’t believe Darian was at that stage where she needed complete privacy.

Darian also wasn’t nervous about the family hang. She, her father, her grandmother and Little Mike, and his father Mike Sr all met up. They got to talking and they got caught up. Deon got to see how tall Little Mike was now. The teenager was almost the same height as his father and Mike Sr. stands tall at 6’4. Mike Sr dropped off son.

The rest of the group got on a boat. It was a small boat and Deon had never driven one before. But it worked out. Darian and Little Mike got to talk. They enjoyed the romantic atmosphere out on the water. GG even knew to call it a date and so it was just Deon who didn’t see it that way. Deon still thought Darian was just hanging out with her “friend”.

He also stopped the young ones from hugging goodbye. Deon said “nope” and then he told them they were going. Deon was total buzzkill on the date. He was better when they got back home and the kids put on their skits for Black History Month. They each got to portray a famous black person. They also got to show in their skits some of the many things the people they portray did in their lifetimes and Barack Obama was a big one.

He was the first Black President. Their ancestors had never envisioned a day with Obama winning as a possibility and so that alone showed that the door was opened for everyone. The kids were all amazing in their skits. They did a wonderful job and they all thanked Eric for helping them. Eric was their new nanny. He was an Honorary Derrico. Eric grew up in foster care and so this family is the family he never got growing up. Eric is a good, sweet person. Having him around will only help the kids become better adults and so everyone was glad to have him as the new nanny.

There were other concerns besides dating and celebrating Black History Month. Diez’s appointment was coming and his parents were scared. They noticed a lot of lumps in Diez’s head now. Diez has also lost five pounds and he wasn’t touching foods. He didn’t even touch soul food. Diez’s little nibbling was making him lose weight. The parents spoke with the doctor and the doctor wanted to remain hopeful, but there was a risk that Diez might need another surgery if those lumps create an issue.

THE END!
