In tonight’s FBI episode, FBI Special Agent Scola once had a brother. His brother Douglas had died on 9/11. It was his birthday that day and so Scola was fresh off visiting his grave when he found out another terrorist attack could be happening in the city. The FBI was notified after local police found the body of Elliott Young. Young was an auto-mechanic who had been murdered in his home and a searched of his house showed to be filled with bags of ammonium nitrate. Young studied engineering. He knew how to make a bomb and he might have made one for someone. But the FBI doesn’t know who killed him or where this bomb was? They followed the only lead they had. They investigated Young’s murder and they found a car fleeing the scene of the murder around the time of death. The car belonged to Hannah Thompson.
Hannah was a widow. She was white and blonde. Her husband had also died on 9/11. She had no clue how her car was at the scene and so the FBI answered that for her. they found out her boyfriend had taken the car. The boyfriend was Venezuelan. Felix Ramos was a member of the Marxist Revolution Party and it was a known terrorist organization, but Hannah didn’t know this. She thought his name was Alberto. She thought he was a filmmaker who makes documentaries and that he was considering moving to NYC for his “work”. She was even going to invest in his company. Hannah was supposed to give Ramos’s friend Ernesto thirty thousand dollars and she had needed an extra day because she had a hard time taking the money out of her 401k.
Hannah said that her boyfriend had been angry about the delay. He needed that money and so whatever he’s planning had to happen that day. The FBI looked into it. They found out that out another and more famous dead Venezuelan terrorist had a birthday that day. Ramos wanted to celebrate the birthday in a big way. He was planning a terrorist attack on something that stood as a sign of American capitalism. Only the FBI didn’t know what that sign was. They also just had Hannah. Hannah was it for them and so they agreed to use her. They sent Hannah to the meeting with Ernesto. They had had hand over the money and they were going to arrest Ernesto when he gabbed a hostage. And they were forced to kill him.
Ramos tried contacting Ernesto. They pretended to be him and that they were still alive. Ramos expressed frustration with the b*tch that was Hannah. He then texted her and told her that he needed the money. She told him to meet with her. He agreed and then he sent someone else. This other person tried to take the money and Hannah gave it up and then they arrested the unknown man. The man was identified as Velez. Velez went on and on about American capitalism. How it was the end of the world. Then he askes for a lawyer. Velez was smart. He didn’t want them to stop the bombing and so he asked for a lawyer because he knew that would end their conversation. And that frustrated Scola who wanted to hand over Velez to the Intelligence community.
Scola wanted the terrorist to be tortured till he revealed where the bomb was. His bosses shot down the idea and they told Scola that they had to respect Velez’s rights. They also told him that they knew why this case would be personal for him. They asked him if he was good and he said he was when it wasn’t. The FBI used the items found on Velez to track down the stash house. They hit it. They found an empty apartment and they searched it. They found blueprints. The blueprints seemed to be for Hannah’s office which was located on Wall Street. Scola went back to Hannah. He mentioned to her that he had a brother who died on 9/11 and how he wants to think the best of her but isn’t sure she could be trusted because she seemed to be closely tied to the terrorist attack.
Hannah had no idea what he was talking about. She said she would never help a terrorist and if Ramos had used her office key card that he did so without her permission. The FBI searched Hannah’s office building. They found the bomb. The bomb could only be deactivated with a code. It was going down and so they combed through Hannah’s messages from Ramos. They found a photo he sent her from a different apartment. The FBI went to the apartment and they arrested Ramos. Ramos refused to give up the code willingly. Scola had no other choice than to risk someone Ramos does care about and so Scola arrested Felix’s brother. His younger brother. He brought the brother to the bomb site and he told Ramos that his brother would die along with everyone else if the bomb went off.
Ramos caved. He gave the code and Scola deactivated it. He even let the brother go. The teenager was just a kid and he didn’t have any dealings with the terrorist attack. And later Scola got in trouble with his bosses.
The only reason he wasn’t fired is because it worked. Otherwise, he’d be out of a job! Scola later opened up to his partner and he told Tiffany that he hasn’t spoken to his brother’s widow or kids in five years. He distanced himself because he blamed himself for his brother’s death. He was supposed to have played tennis with him that morning and he was too hung over from the night before and he cancelled the game. And his brother went to work where he later died.
Scola uses his brother’s death to distance himself from people and so after he spoke with Tiffany he went to see his brother’s widow to visit the kids.
