In tonight’s episode Jughead’s dad tells him, Alice and Betty that he is taking Jelly Bean back to Toledo. Just then, Archie shows up. He tells them they need to come with him. They head to his gym but before they get there they stop by Hiram’s to tell him he needs to reinstate the sheriff. Later, Archie wakes after dreaming of his mom and dad and graduation.
Veronica receives pearls from her parents to wear on the last day of school while Cheryl gets ready as she thinks of her brother. Meanwhile, Alice cries to Betty about how it is just them now. Betty assures her she will always be there.
At school, Betty, Cheryl and the others watch as they open a time capsule from the 1940s as they celebrate their last day of school. They get their year books. Archie and Jug are called to the principle’s office. Jug learns he is graduating. Archie learns he isn’t so lucky. He has to repeat senior year. He can walk at gradually though. When he leaves the principle’s office he lies to Jug telling him he has to go to summer school. They all cheer when the bell rings for the final time. Archie looks at an old photo of 4 classmates from the 1940s who went on to join the military.
Veronica visits with Archie. She has some of his things. But she also wants to spend one last night with him. He wants that too. Later, they spend time talking about summer school for Archie.
Jug offers to go to Toledo but FP tells him no. He needs to go to college. They head to graduation. Archie watches everyone around him celebrate and take photos as he misses his dad. During the ceremony, Betty gives a speech about trying to remember a sleepy boring town and a time before tragedy struck. They applaud before walking the stage one final time to recess their diplomas.
They all cheer and clap. Archie opens his to see a blank one. He swears he sees the 4 classmates from a picture taken from the capsule from the 1940s. They are all in military uniforms.
Cheryl comes out of the school to find her mom in the bushes. She couldn’t miss graduation. Now that Cheryl is grown she plans to turn herself in. Hiram promises she will be treated well in his jail.
FP says goodbye to Jug and then Alice. He tells her this isn’t the end of their story. He and Jellybean leave with the Serpents. Archie meets with the army.
At Pop’s, Veronica tells Pop she is signing over the diner to him. She heads over to the school to meet Betty, Archie and the others to bury their own time capsule. Jug puts his hat in. Archie adds his dad’s hammer and a guitar pic. That night, they all drink and make a vow to meet in one year and every year after that. Archie then shares that he joined the Army and he leaves in the morning. Veronica is angry while Betty supports him.
Cheryl tells Toni she isn’t going to college. She plans to stay in Riverdale and fix the family name. She tells Toni to go on without her. That night, Betty confesses to Jug that she kissed Archie a while back and that is probably why he and Veronica are no longer close. Jug doesn’t say anything. She kisses him. He kisses her back.
In the morning, Jug and Betty say goodbye. He is taking Archie to boot camp. He tells Betty they need to talk when they get back. Betty goes to see Veronica to tell her. Veronica already knows and she cannot be mad today. She is too upset about Archie. Archie tries to tell Jug too but he already knows and he isn’t mad.
Veronica wishes she hugged Archie one last time. Betty takes her to him as he waits at the bus stop. They arrive and just miss him. They chase the bus. Veronica gets to kiss and hug Archie goodbye. She tells him she loves him. He hugs Betty and Jug. They plan to see one of them in a year.
After Archie left, Veronica took off within a week. She went to the Hamptons. Soon Betty was gone early as well. She and Alice went on a road trip. She and Jug decided they needed to focus on their lives, on school. Jug moved into Archie’s house, squatting unit they cut the power, the gas and more. Come August, it was time for Jug to go to college. He ate at Pop’s one last time.
A Year Later…
Jug waits for the gang at Pop’s but they never come. It would be 6 years before they all meet again.
