The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers recap for Wednesday, February 17, reveal that Hope Spencer (Annika Noelle) and Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) continued their tense conversation at the cabin. Liam told Hope that this doesn’t have to be the end for them, and that he’ll believe in both of them even if Hope can’t.
Hope asked Liam why he would do this to their family and to them, after everything they went through with Beth Spencer (River Davidson and Madeline Valdez). Hope ranted that Liam threw everything away and ruined things. Liam appealed to Hope’s optimism and her ability to see the best in everyone.
Meanwhile, at the cliff house, John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) stared down the portrait on the wall as Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) said that she was sorry about this whole situation.
Finn said that he was sorry, too, and that they’d make it work somehow. Steffy lamented that the baby should be Finn’s.
Over at the Forrester Creations CEO office, Vinny Walker (Joe LoCicero) asked Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) to be honest for a moment. “You want this kid to be Liam’s, right?” Vinny said. Thomas didn’t answer. “If it is, you’ll have a shot at Hope, right?” Vinny asked.
At Brooke Forrester’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) mansion, Brooke and Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) talked and wondered when they were going to hear the results of the paternity test. Brooke wanted Ridge to reach out to Steffy, so Ridge texted, “Any news?” to Steffy.
Back at the cliff house, Steffy ignored the incoming text from Ridge, saying that if Finn wanted to walk out and never come back, she’d understand. Finn said that he’d never do that because he loves Steffy too much. Steffy’s phone dinged again, and Finn said that Steffy should probably get that. Steffy texted Ridge back, saying, “Not Finn’s.”
Back at Brooke’s mansion, Ridge got Steffy’s text, and his face said it all for Brooke. “No, it can’t be,” Brooke said. “It’s Liam’s kid,” Ridge said, as Brooke worried about Hope. Just then, Bridget Forrester (Ashley Jones) walked in the front door, saying that she was filling in for a colleague at a medical conference.
Bridget immediately noticed that something was wrong, and she guessed that the paternity test came back saying that the baby was Liam’s. Brooke wondered if she should call Hope now or wait, and Bridget interjected that Hope was resilient and that she’d make this work somehow for the children.
Back at the cliff house, Steffy thought that Finn should let his feelings out. Finn said that he was angry – not at Steffy, but at the whole situation. Finn said that he had started planning their life together as parents and that he had a few baby names picked out. Steffy cried, saying that if it was a boy, she wanted it to be John Finnegan Jr.
Steffy said that she and Finn could have a child of their own one day, and Finn said that he wanted that, but that he was going to have to watch Steffy go through this pregnancy knowing that the baby is Liam’s.
Steffy and Finn said that they wanted a life together, but Finn wondered if they’d be able to. Steffy begged Finn not to give up on them, and they hugged.
Back at the cabin, Hope and Liam continued their discussion. After a while, Hope had had enough, and she informed Liam that he was the one who did this when he betrayed his vows.
Hope then lost it, sobbing uncontrollably and blasting Liam for turning to Steffy instead of coming to her that night. Hope sobbed and collapsed onto the ottoman, while Liam stood there helplessly.
Hope sobbed that she was so tired of fighting and that she didn’t want to do it anymore.
Liam attempted to comfort Hope, and later after Hope was done with her outburst, Liam said that he knew that Hope was overwhelmed, but that they could make it through this and that he’d spend the rest of his life protecting Hope and their family if she just let him.
Back at Brooke’s mansion, Ridge got a text from Thomas, so he called Thomas back. Ridge broke the news that Steffy’s baby was Liam’s. Thomas hung up, and Vinny asked how Thomas felt about the results.
Thomas said that he was thinking about how Hope likely feels. “You’re a good person, Thomas, you deserve this,” Vinny said.
“I deserve this?” Thomas said quizzically. Vinny explained that now Thomas had a clear path to Hope, and deservedly so. Vinny ranted about how Liam has been waffling between Steffy and Hope for years. Thomas agreed with that, but he said that he’s not going to interfere with Hope and Liam’s situation.
Vinny picked up his white lab coat and said that he had to get back to work. “Fate works in mysterious ways,” Vinny said. “This gives you the chance to have what you always wanted – a life with Hope.”
