In tonight’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Sutton said the words. She said she doesn’t see color. She said it to imply that she wasn’t racist and yet Crystal heard the opposite. Crystal didn’t have the luxury of not seeing color. She was a woman of color and so she had to see everything with its natural undertones. She didn’t get to be like a white woman. She didn’t get to be outdated with her mindset.
Crystal tried to tell Sutton that and Sutton broke down in tears. She was genuinely hurt because she had been raised not to see color. Kyle had been raised not to see color and Crystal was here to tell the two white women what that meant to her. It meant they didn’t want to learn about her culture or its history. It meant they were fine not knowing what she has to face every day and so Crystal really did break it down for them.
Crystal did her best to explain. The two women still ended up believing that not seeing color was a good thing and so what Crystal went into one ear and out the other. They just didn’t want to hear it. The woman went to bed and Kyle had even more issues because her sister climbed into bed with her. Kyle was trying to sleep while Kathy was eating chips in bed. It kept Kyle up and she had to put on these little pieces of patches under her eyelids the next morning.
By the next morning, everyone had seemingly moved on from the argument and they discussed the election. Everyone was hoping that the Biden/Harris ticket would win. They didn’t want another four years of Trump and Lisa mentioned that she had been on “The Apprentice”.
Lisa was on “The Apprentice” for two seasons. Donald Trump had seemed very professional and she never would have guessed he was the monster she sees on tv now. Lisa also didn’t know about everything in his past. She found out when he became president and she never thought he would be president. Lisa was shocked by that too. The women decided not to watch the news and to focus on their vacation but Sutton had wanted a word alone with Crystal.
Sutton was offended that Crystal had asked her if she was “that girl”. The girl that doesn’t see color. Crystal knows Sutton isn’t racist and so she tried to explain to Sutton again why she has such a hard time with people that say that and again Sutton chose to focus on the wrong thing. She wanted to focus on being uncomfortable.
Sutton let Crystal apologize to her without apologizing for saying she doesn’t see color. She just wasn’t going to get it and so Crystal hugged it out with her and they moved on. The women all wanted to enjoy their vacation to Lake Tahoe. They got dressed while Kathy slept in. Kathy was a late sleeper and so she missed the fun.
The rest of the women rode these little buggies on a track. It was a nice race and most of the women enjoyed it while Sutton did not. Sutton didn’t like going fast. She didn’t like roller coasters or heights or tall buildings or elevators. Sutton did later bond with Crystal because they both lost their fathers. Crystal’s father slowly wasted away and Sutton’s father committed suicide. And so the two women did bond over the trip back to the house.
The rest of the women also relaxed. They got to talking and Kathy joined in and Garcelle mentioned that in the beginning, she used to find Paris annoying. She was on a reality show with Paris. Paris was on her phone a lot and so Garcelle used to ask why she was even there. But Paris’s mother and aunt said Paris is really shy.
She turns to her phone if she feeling uncomfortable and so it’s a good thing Garcelle and Kyle patched things up before the trip because otherwise she would have been offended by Garcelle judging someone in her family. Garcelle was also having a thing with Lisa. They were being extra careful around each other and so it was awkward when they both were the first ones to be ready for dinner later.
They made polite talk. They talked about the weather and a support beam in the house and they both waited until everyone else arrived. By the time everyone else showed, the women got up and they went to dinner. The dinner started off great and everyone was enjoying the wine and ambiance when Sutton brought up the conversation with Crystal.
Sutton said that being from the south she often feels like she had to prove she’s not racist. She asked Erika if she felt the same and Erika said she didn’t. Erika has seen and heard a lot of racist things but she doesn’t believe she was ever prejudged for being from the south. To her, it sounded like Sutton was extra sensitive. Dorit also stepped in to say that as a child of a world that she never heard that people from the south were judged for being racists.
This was the first time hearing it. Dorit tried to make Sutton feel better by saying that Erika living in New York and LA has opened her up to multiculturalism and that upset Sutton. Sutton was extra sensitive. She said she was multicultural. She’s lived in New York, London, LA, and elsewhere. She wasn’t just some hick that left a small town yesterday. Sutton was upset and she was made more upset when she realized something was up.
The ladies were all doing bottoms up. Kathy started it as a prank and she herself was pranked when the other women pretended to do it with water. Sutton didn’t like being left out. She again showed her sensitivity and she was still hurt even as the whole thing was explained to her.
Garcelle asked the other women if they had been texting about Sutton. They confirmed they weren’t and Sutton almost rushed to bed because she was such a drama queen. Sutton likes to make things about her. She wasn’t the only one in on the joke and so this just confirmed to Crystal that Sutton was the girl she thought she was the night before. The one who says she doesn’t see color.
Sutton later went to Crystal’s room and so there’s no telling what’s that’s going to be about.
