The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Abby Faces Chance’s Presumed Death – Widow Raises Baby Alone After Mission’s Grim End?

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) will keep moving forward with her baby plans despite Chance Chancellor’s (Donny Boaz) abrupt departure.

Of course, the truth of the matter is that Y&R had this story all mapped out when they decided to cut Chance out of nowhere.

It makes sense that they’re trying to salvage it and keep what they’ve written intact for now. We get why Y&R’s taking this route, but that doesn’t make it any easier to get on board with Abby having a baby when Chance just disappeared on her.

It’s clear that Chance’s priority isn’t his marriage or the family he so desperately wanted.

Abby was concerned that Chance could be gone for months or even years, though Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) suggested Chance wouldn’t have taken the case if he thought he’d be out of the picture too long.

Now that The Young and the Restless writers have written themselves into this corner, they have two options. One is that Chance eventually comes back in some form – and Melissa Ordway’s real-life husband, Justin Gaston, would be a great option in the event that happens.

If Y&R brings Gaston in as a replacement again, Chance and Abby’s love story could continue.

However, Y&R could just as easily choose to leave Chance off canvas indefinitely. Since Chance can’t just stay on a mission forever, he may have to be presumed dead on this assignment. Chance has promised to come home to Abby and their baby, so he can’t just let the days keep going by.

It’s not like Chance can let that baby become a toddler and then an older child. Chance wouldn’t push Abby to have a baby and then miss the kid’s whole childhood.

In Boaz’s exit Instagram post, he claimed he was told the role wouldn’t be recast. If that’s true and Y&R doesn’t bring Boaz back, then this presumed death outcome would fit.

Abby noted that this case seemed especially dangerous, so she’s undoubtedly right. Will Chance suffer a grim fate eventually? Will Abby get some terrible news down the road?

It’d be better to go with a presumed death instead of making Chance dead-dead – just in case the show wants him to return someday.

Nevertheless, Abby may ultimately come to believe Chance is gone forever and never coming back. This could lead to Abby becoming a widow and raising this baby alone – at least until some other wonderful guy comes along to be a fill-in father.

It’s also possible the writing direction will finally adjust for Chance’s departure. The surrogacy story could still be scrapped before it goes too far.

Even so, Abby’s awfully determined to have a baby somehow, so we have to consider the possibility that she’ll do it without Chance by her side.
